Yeah, I installed Heliboard soon after I posted my comment and I like it well enough. I think I might stick with it.
What is the best offline, privacy first, FOSS, Android keyboard alternative to FUTO?
I edited the comment with “part 1” which basically completes the idea that came to mind when I saw the original post.

17·12 days agoNutanix…oof. I deal with them every day. It isn’t their fault their shit can’t handle what we do, but it is their sales folk that constantly lie and misrepresent.
Wanna know one of rhe big reasons people hate Oracle so much? It’s their sales guys. They are awful. If that guy went from Oracle to Nutanix, that tells me that I cannot trust a single syllable out of their mouth.

92·12 days agoHatred of Oracle predates “cancelling” by decades. Oracle is and has always been one of, if not the most disgusting and vicious companies in tech. They kill everything they touch.
If you need a political component, then Oracle = Larry Ellison, but Oracle hate predates and supercedes the American political slide into fascism.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have the absolute worst reason for dual booting Linux and Windows
3·12 days agoRun XP on a VM? Zunes were great.
I didn’t want to assume requirements and OP specifically asked for no wifi/BT. If this is for a secure system then maybe a software disable might not be sufficient.
I am having an impossible time finding “N” (network) models in most consumer stores. It seems that they have all been replaced by “W” (wireless) models.

1·15 days agoDo you mean hijacking? If so, any IOT device controlled via a webservice is very susceptible to lackluster security at the manufacturer level. If anyone is within signal range of your device, they can also hija it.
Do you mean being harmed in any way by the manufacturer? They are using the devices to collect and sell any and all possible data they can collect about you.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Should there be something that installs Linux to disk directly from Windows?
25·17 days agoI find that live USB drives, like the Linux Mint installer are a fantastic way to show potential converts around. If they like it, all they had to do is click install.

19·18 days agoSame, and I have done so since the mid-90’s. It’s muscle memory at this point.

Eh. I am very happy with thwir service, but I didn’t opt for the free tier. It has replaced my old VPN service provider, 1Password, google’s 2FA, Google Drive, and the office suite is useful.
Since i was paying for other services that offered no privacy, switching to a single paid service with privacy ended up saving me money, so no complaints.
