linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Where to go now since Linux is mainstream

Highly successful
???
Student (14) told me he started streaming on twitch over the christmas break
Technology can be adapted to everyone’s unique workflow.
Yours is a highly specialised one, that apparently works for you. Something i may try for a day or two, but am confident can never adapt to my work flow. (Only know 2 “free” WiFi spots in my town. One wants an account. The other wants a phone number)
Its above S tier. OP just did a bad job cropping
Its always fun to go from your smooth Linux work flow over the break, then back to windows for work.
No joke, last year. Day 1 back at work. Pop up notification about an adobe PDF subscription thing.
I remember having a Gentoo install, seeing the wiki for how to install steam, and just dual booted with Bazzite.
I’ll try again another time
I opened up my PC to find a 8TB SSD I forgot to plug in somehow…
Was dreading getting more storage for my jellyfin server, but now I don’t need to xd
So nobody on the design team asked themselves…

I don’t think he is on the extreme far and of the spectrum, but there is the Linux youtuber living in his van. I think he is just doing it to travel the country and see different views every morning (but he also has a bible study second channel)
Our dislike of NFTs stopped that…
Dual GPU was meant to be the next big thing, and that went.
VR was meant to be the next big thing, and its hanging on a thread.
NFTs was meant to be the next big thing, and that’s gone.
AI was meant to be the next big thing, and I believe it will fade as well.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Have you met a Christian that sold/gave up everything they owned?
2·1 month agoI met 2 (or at least they looked like they did).
1 was a pastor of a local church, which didn’t have a set location. (No tithe collections either). Every week they would go to someones house or a community centre for their service. For me it looked like they chose being a Christian vs acting like one.
The other was homeschooling his kids from a trailer out of town (which looking back, might be abit TOO brainwash-ey, but the kids are gown up now and seem normal. So maybe he raised them right, or the kids grew out of it after school.
Onion rings.
Tried it at I think ALL of the resteraunts in my town. (10-20+). ALL of them tasted like heart faliure. Like, I’m sure chips/french fries are also unhealthy, but I can’t feel my heart slowing down with every bite like with onion rings

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Is DeleteMe.org real? Looks too good to not be a data stealing scam.
11·2 months agoIf I remember from Reject Convience they will spend 6 months to email 2-3 companies to delete your data. (I listen to these to fall asleep to. I may be missing some facts)
Its fun to learn how the system works, but after the 4-5th time trying to install something real quick, and there’s an error in your package.use or something, it gets a lot less fun.
If you have the time and patience, its really cool. But I just want a web browser without having to edit 3+ text files to allow it to work.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What would be a valuable thing to have memorized by heart?

I don’t tell EVERYONE. I just tell my coworkers and friends…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•When did you guys start your privacy journey? How did you find out about the data stealing stuff?
3·3 months agoBack in the covid lock downs, I went down a rabbit hole with alternative operating systems. I found TheHatedOnes video on GrapheneOS, got the cheapest pixel from a pawn shop, and started experimenting on the mobile side of things
As for my PC, I’m not sure if this video exists, or it did and its gone, or I was just dreaming, but I’m sure there was a SomeOrdinary Gamer video about how windows 10 wanted a 1080p webcam.
That was the final straw for me, and I started duel booting to get used to Linux. I knew back then I would never go to windows 11, so I knew the sooner I start switching, the more comfortable I would be when windows 10 reaches EOL.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•For GrapheneOS users, what is your profile setup like?
4·3 months agoOwner has everything as open source/de-googled as possible. User 2 has YouTube/twitch for my video game communities. User 3 is work mode with pretty much Outlook for work. (And apps that work wants)
Users 2 and 3 have play services enabled just to reduse headaches in the future

I got a Bluetooth keyboard, a failed kali-mobile-install-thingy on a spade phone, and about 3 months of “eh, I will try again later”
If I get access to a 3d printer, try to make a cool clam shell design, and put in the effort, I might be able to daily drive it.
