On mbin, it’s very easy to accidentally boost (retoot) posts, and mbin doesn’t seem to propogate undoing that. any boosts you see from this account when viewing on mastodon et cetera are finger fudges, sorry!

no hannah montana linux??
they have three tabs open in chrome
it’s a shame ReactOs is only in alpha and FreeDOS is single-tasking. it’s probably sacrelige to say this in a linux community but i wish we had foss os options that are to DOS and CP/M what modern linuxes are to Research Unix
+1 for Bandcamp. they often run a “bandcamp friday” event where they waive their cut of all music sold that day, so almost everything (payment processors still take a cut) goes to the artist. there are also self-hosted alternatives to bandcamp like faircamp

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Can we please stop arguing about whether Bluesky is decentralized?
12·9 months agocan anyone recommend a good read into the actual developments happening with ATproto as of late? i’ve seen a lot of insisting lately that things are changing/have changed but no one’s saying what exactly is or has changed

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Should large Fediverse instances and Bluesky encourage, not require, users to opt-in to bridges that connect the Fediverse to Bluesky and other non-fedi social web platforms?
82·10 months agomost people join the fedi to get away from shit like bluesky, so until they become actually decentralized i think most fedi instances should block/ban bridges if anything. the current status quo of bridges being around for those who want/need them but are easily ignorable for the rest of us is probably the best case scenario right now

Fediverse@lemmy.world•What should the subset of the Fediverse that is Lemmy + Mbin + PieFed be called?
17·1 year agoi think threadiverse is the move. partly because it’s already in regular use and partky because it’s very self-explanatory. forumverse could have some legs to it now that more traditional forum software like nodebb and soon flarum support federation now, maybe it could refer to the broader category containing traditional forums and the threadiverse, but i feel like leaving out the “fedi” part kinda defeats the point (threadiverse at least partially maintains it by being a pun on it). maybe fediforums is the way to go?
it’s a whole 'nother can of worms but ironically in my experience the “verse” part of threadiverse is more offputting than the “thread” part because people think “metaverse,” but that’s just anecdotal and the term fediverse itself already has too much momentum to easily fall out of fashion
you can just subscribe to them all. that way, if one instance goes down, or dies out, or makes nonsensical moderation decisions, you still have the others. it’s not a bug, it’s a feature!
there’s no one easy fix to the rancid sociopolitical climate in the US but a Tim Hortons on every corner would certainly go a long way

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Sounds crazy but... maybe you shouldn't delete Facebook just yet
10·1 year agoi honestly regret deleting my xitter account. not because i actually want to use it, no way in hell, but i got curious recently and saw that my username was retaken by someone else, so now any old links there go to them instead of me. would have been much better to delete all of my tweets and change my display name and bio to point people to mastodon. maybe even set up automated tweets telling people switch. even if i got banned for that, that at least prevents anyone else from squatting on my old id. oh well, you live and you learn!

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Bad UX is keeping the majority of people away from Lemmy
14·1 year agoi came here to say the same thing! if people actually genuinely like the new reddit ui, those people might just want and need different things out of a website than we do, and trying to onboard them might be a fool’s errand. not to be a gatekeeper, i’d love if everyone quit the corporate web, but a lot of the things people complain about here like the ui and the decentrilization are why i’m here (in my case mbin) and not there to begin with
same thing with mastodon, people still rail against it’s ui but the ui was a big reason i even made a mastodon long before twitter was bought out, back when they first tried to phase out the chronological timeline

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Millenials and Zoomers experience decision fatigue differently (And what it means for Lemmy)
3·2 years agohonestly i’m not even sure how the author of this managed to boil down feed UI preferences into “questions” or “options” or whatever. all of the same content is there, it’s just a matter of if it’s expanded or collapsed by default- merely information density. what it really comes down to is older sites collapsed things by default, newer sites expand things by default, and most people like whatever they grew up with. i’m gen z and much prefer the older style just because i was on forums and old reddit right around when my peers opened their twitter and instagram accounts. there is definitely a discussion to be had there about which format is healthier and why companies prefer the latter format these days, but to skim right past that into the bit about third parties makes me think that was the real point the author wanted to make and contorted their UI argument to get there

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Loops by Pixelfed • Public beta (hopefully) launching in 10 hours
64·2 years agoi’m really interested to see where this goes. i feel like a lot of the dorks (i say affectionately as a dork) who use the fediverse and people who do this kinda shortform video are two circles that don’t touch, so this could very well die on the vine- no pun intended- or it could give the fedi the jolt it needs to enter the mainstream

Fediverse@lemmy.world•The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves: Cohost and the Fate of Centralized Platforms
2·2 years agoi just have such a hard time wrapling my head around why the fedi is under that level of scrutiny to begin with while everyone assumed cohost would be forever. i had an account there but stopped using it years ago because half the time i tried to log in it was down! come october there will be a plethora of mastodon instances that both predate and have outlived cohost

Fediverse@lemmy.world•The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves: Cohost and the Fate of Centralized Platforms
20·2 years agolast week i was in a conversation with a few people about social media. i guess they were finally leaving xitter and wanted to know where to go. cohost came up and they all made accounts immediately. then i mentioned mastodon and was immediately rebuffed because “sometimes those instances shut down”
whoops!

contemporary gnostics would accuse orthodox linuxians of using hannah montana linux, whilst they recognize her as the demiurge, the accidental creation of the fallen aeon of wisdom miley cyrus, who herself eminated from the ineffable monad billy ray cyrus and was redeemed back into the glory of the pleroma like a wrecking ball by the logos linus torvalds christos amen
