Plastic is a hard problem to solve since meaningfully recycling most of it requires a expensive energy and chemical inputs.

Also, I’m running into some weird math. Doing some light searching, China’s plastic consumption demand will reach a peak at 119 million tons in 2030. That means their recycling target will be able to meet 16% of total plastic demand in China, but for comparison, China recycles 17% of it’s plastic today. I doubt China is aiming for plastic recycling to remain about the same if it’s supposed to be a new national target - I guess they might not be looking to increase the percentage of recycled plastic and are only interested in keeping up with demand? Or, probably likely, something is wrong with my sources because I can’t get behind paywalls. 🤷‍♀️

Yeah, it’s actually more complicated than just being mask-on vs mask-off. It turns out that only the competents wear their mask, because they’re competent enough to know why they’re wearing a mask. The incompetents think that masks are woke.

Harris had the same foreign policy goals as Trump, the difference between them is that she would have pursued those goals with more competence i.e. she wouldn’t have bombed Iran, she’d have kept up the economic war to cause the country to collapse. She might have bombed Iran by 2028, but the economic war was working. Iran was in really bad shape before the war.

With this in mind, in terms of foreign policy, Trump is the lesser evil. Thanks to Trump, Iran has a path to victory.

We don’t understand the brain enough to control it with chips either. In the near-term the biggest danger would be a bad actor using the chip to torture people for ransom money or a hacker just bricking it. Anything more sophisticated is still scifi.

In a lot of cases the people they detain might have several months or a year or more of procedure to get through, but they’d be allowed to stay after that, and in normal conditions they’d simply be let go and made to report to court for their proceedings. They’ve short circuited that process and now are just keeping people in detention while their cases are heard in immigration court. The goal here is to make people give up on their cases and choose to “self deport” by placing them in inhumane conditions. It’s why so many people have died in ICE custody, their detention is designed to be unhealthy and dangerous to increase the pressure.

Do they have investments and own property? Then they’re bourgeoisified, they materially benefit when the stock market rises and property values go up. In this way their class position is muddled and they benefit from capitalism even as they are exploited by it.

In shocking twist, “think of the children!” used once again as an excuse.

“Corporations want a way to verify the humanity of users” is a simple answer.

“Governments want a way to easily prosecute users” is also a simple answer.

I don’t see why it can’t be all of these things. There is actually a more complicated answer that I didn’t bring up, which is that smaller websites will have a hard time complying with ID laws, which gives preferential treatment to large websites. That locks out potential competition, hinders smaller projects like lemmy or mastodon, and helps secure the current social media monopolies.

That one might just be a useful side effect, rather than the intentional outcome.

They also want a reliable way to differentiate between chatbots and real users, because advertising isn’t very effective on chatbots.

But also, one benefit of ID laws for the government is that it makes court proceedings much faster and cheaper. Sure, they’re tracking everyone online, but a lot of that information is locked behind procedure. By just requiring ID to log in they can sidestep the procedures, because they can just ask corporations nicely for ID information and they’ll eagerly comply.

It’s absolutely worth mentioning that they are coordinated enough to all meet up to discuss their plans for us. If this was a fringe idea it wouldn’t go anywhere, everyone is ready to consider the idea even if they still need to be convinced to implement it.

The coordination is already happening and after this it will likely increase.

The headline literally says that Macron is pushing for a coordinated approach with the rest of the EU. From the article; “The main goal is to ​act in ​a ⁠coordinated manner and push the European Commission, ​in the positive sense ​of ⁠the term, to move ahead at the same pace ⁠as ​member states.” I’m not particularly sure why you’re dismissing this as conspiratorial. It’s just out in the open.

We’re talking about exploration. Satellites aren’t exploring anything, they’re basically just infrastructure.

As is depicted in the OP’s picture, I’m specifically talking about sending humans to space, and additionally, using them to explore deeper into space. It’s mostly pointless as anything other than a propaganda tool. Anything that can be discovered by sending humans out in space can be discovered by humans on Earth.

The space station might need humans on it to maintain it, but again, the station isn’t exploring anything. We probably don’t even need humans on the space station, remote maintenance and operation seems doable.

It’s great propaganda.

That’s about it.

Don’t get me wrong, propaganda isn’t inherently bad or anything, you just need to consider how the propaganda is being used.
