homeassistant@lemmy.world•HA on Raspberry pi: SD card failureEnglish
1·3 months agoI don’t think it has the power draw of an N100/N150-based machine (10-15W), but it’s not a huge power hungry server either.

5·3 months agoI’m using this one, it’s fine. The fact it has PoE makes it better for me than the ZBT2. After they’ve released ZWA I was sure they’d make a PoE capable Zigbee coordinator.

32·3 months agoAlso: run your HA on something that makes more sense than Pi. For a little more you can run a much more powerful N100/150 based mini PC with very similar power draw.

homeassistant@lemmy.world•How do you name your devices and entities?English
0·4 months agoI do exact that and rarely move stuff. When I do I rename it. Most of the stuff I have is Zigbee, so I rename it in Zigbee2MQTT, select the option to rename it in HA too.

homeassistant@lemmy.world•Which HA voice assistant ollama model are you using?English
1·7 months agoI could probably run something on my gaming PC with 3090, but that would be a big cost. Instead I’ve just put my old 2070 in an existing server and using it for more lightweight stuff (TTS, obico, frigate, ollama with some small model).

2·7 months agoSo basically for people who have graphic cards with 24GB VRAM (or more). While I do, it’s probably something most people don’t ;)

homeassistant@lemmy.world•Styrbar Connection Issues [Zigbee]English
5·7 months agoI use 2 of them with Zigbee2MQTT using this coordinator. It takes a while to interview (get basic information) them, but they work. My suggestion is to switch to Z2M (more control over devices/Zigbee network), and if the issues persist RMA the devices. I’ve done it a few times - Ikea simply sent me replacements, that why makes them better than off-brand Zigbee devices from China.

homeassistant@lemmy.world•IKEA moves to Thread (and away from Zigbee)English
3·7 months agoThere are also performance implications (a Zigbee coordinator can easily handle 100 devices, while many routers would struggle with that amount of clients), power saving (especially for battery powered sensors) - some Zigbee sensors can last years on a single coin cell battery.

2·8 months agoAnd you could probably replace whatever Tuya does with Esp32;)
I’ve been using Zamel MEW-01 (https://supla.zamel.com/product/monitor-energii-elektrycznej-wi-fi-3fn-mew-01/) for about 3 years now. I think that would also match your needs? Works really great, connects to MQTT and has 3 versions (they differ by antenna type).

homeassistant@lemmy.world•Music service that works well with VPN and Music AssistantEnglish
4·11 months agoHow does running your music service through a VPN improve privacy?
I don’t think so. I haven’t built mine yet. JSN comes with a pretty long cable, so you could but just the probe in your well and keep ESP above ground to have Wi-Fi. You could battery power the ESP32 and use deep sleep to conserve battery (you don’t need to have probe reading every second or minute, right?). You could even try to use solar power to charge the battery. Possibilities are endless.
I’m going to try to mount a probe in a sewage tank - I have a few cables left leading to it. That means I don’t have to worry about power or Wi-Fi - Esp32 i going to be at home, the probe and its control board inter sewage tank.
