But seriously, a PeerTube compatible software with a different approach than PeerTube could be good for the federated video ecosystem.

1·12 days agoThis will be fixed when 1.6.2 is available for YunoHost. We just have to wait for this PR to get merged.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Idea : Hackathon for the fediverse the 7-8 Febuary.English
2·12 days agoNo real schedule. The translation is almost at 100% anyway, but I keep finding strings that were translated automatically which aren’t very good. So it’s just random checking of strings.
Will have a look at joinfediverse.wiki later. But I can’t commit to a fixed schedule. If I see something that needs improvement, I’ll try to improve it or gather feedback here or in Zulip chat.

4·16 days agoGood idea. I can help with German translations, some CSS and I have a joinfediverse.wiki account as well. I don’t think PieFed is relevant enough for Wikipedia or is it?
A single user PieFed instance
Sure, there’s always room for improvement. But a lot of books that weren’t available on my instance I could just import from other instances or other sources. I’ve also got some good recommendations from the Explore feed on Bookwyrm.
We have Bookwyrm

8·18 days agoIn addition, some hashtags you could follow on Mastodon-like softwares are #fosdem, #fosdem26, #socialweb and #fediverse.
There’s a lot of stuff happening and watching these hashtags and hanging out on matrix when you’re attending remotely gives you a little bit of a feeling of being there.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•German public radio and television (SWR) just published a whitepaper about the fediverse: "Chancen des Fediverse für Journalismus"English
12·28 days agoIt wasn’t intentional. One of the authors wrote on Mastodon that there’s “something wrong with the text layers” and the Media Lab is working on it.
It seems like they outsourced the pdf creation to someone who doesn’t know how to properly create pdf’s or the wrong version got published, which I’m suspecting because the title of the pdf is “layout draft 2024-12-16”.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•About decentralised storage of fediverse data.English
7·28 days agoPeerTube is using Webtorrent to distribute the load to all viewers that currently watch the video. And if you host a PeerTube instance you can manually mirror videos on your instance that are hosted on other PeerTube instances.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•A post-American, enshittification-resistant internetEnglish
17·1 month agoThere well never be a federated Youtube for instance. Think about that the storage that Google uses since videos are not really deleted, and the bandwidth to server that much video.
Until there is. Someday someone will create a PeerTube plugin or some other piece of software that will tackle this. I’m thinking distributed storage, automatic mirroring to other instances when more bandwidth is needed for a popular video, voluntary storage donation from clients (got 10GB of expendable storage on your device? Donate it to the network), or something I can’t even think of. There are so many possibilities in this space. I won’t accept that it’ll never be possible.
