Phones are ridiculously expensive now. I was always buying the best phone growing up, but now it’s absolutely not worth it. People pay for great cameras, essentially, and then post most of their pics on social media where they are compressed and converted from the original image anyway.
If there are no logs, there is nothing to give up. There is no law that they have to keep logs as far as I know.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m interested in i2p. Thanks for posting.
I tried warp but it was actually laggy and slow. Also I don’t like the account idea, but I was willing to let it slide if they built a much better terminal than what we have.
They didn’t.
I’m guessing their scientific software needs that system we shall not name…
That’s right, Virtuous American Sun Energy before Dirty Commy solar beams. :p
Sure. It’s very welcome. I guess the west will find it hard to say that solar cells are spying on us but we will see :)
It’s true today that you can easily drive your entire home on solar power, but only if you live in a sunny country. If I was, I would install them immediately. They will pay back in like 5 years and after that, energy costs are zero.
I look forward to them becoming smaller and more efficient. In the future, we may be able to have glass that is made of solar panels, which means entire skyscraper buildings can charge their power continuously from the sun.
Yeah I know, I’m not American myself. It’s absolutely possible to have a balance, but it requires companies to not be so rich and above the law that they can control the laws.
It’s just really boring I guess. As a kid I didn’t realize how pointless it all is. Go to work, make money to pay bills, be tired after work and watch TV…
Thank god for working from home, it gives some relief from the process.
But yeah, it’s the same in communist countries I guess… Just without all the stuff we can buy.
It’s all about distraction. All of us seek entertainment because our lives are usually quite dull. So the media feeds us things to have opinions about. Politicians, big tech psychos, gender issues…
It’s all pointless and keeps us from actually making any real difference. People here on Lemmy fight over which words to use, gender issues, or god forbid, someone admits they are not vaccinated…! Wow. Nuclear bomb right away.
None of this matters at all, it’s just entertainment… Nobody changes their minds from getting downvoted either. Sometimes it feels like keyboard warriors here think they are fighting some kind of fight. But nobody changes their mind guys, even if you downvote them.
So it’s actually pure entertainment and distraction from what matters… :) We don’t have to be so serious.
As long as their goals suite the company, sure. The endgame of Google is very clear and it doesn’t include a free and open web.
First thing in their privacy statement:
You can claim that they are lying but I personally do not think they do.
Google is not private and they track you on every web page, building up a profile of your searches, weather you are logged in or not.
I think its been interesting to watch. What has happened is that there is now a super large instance in Lemmy.world, and a handful of smaller ones with above a thousand users.
The promise of proper decentralization didn’t really happen. There are hundreds of small instances but they are not self contained and completely depend on the larger ones to get content.
Defederation seems to be common since admins don’t want to deal with moderating hostile conversations, which makes a lot of sense. But it also makes it a echo chamber to some degree. We see mostly memes and jokes instead of meaningful discussions. So it’s great for a fun time but not so much more than that.
Still, I’m happy it’s an alternative to reddit and those shitty services. I love that it’s run by ordinary people and not tech companies. And no ads or tracking. All good stuff.
I think if you run Linux, you don’t notice it so much. Don’t need office suite or Adobe suitsäe or mediation apps or whatever… There are many decent free ones.
I don’t pay for any software at all actually, and my job pays for chat gpt…
Friends don’t let friends use windows man. :p
He was 22 years old. Pretty incredible.
I lost the trust with windows 8 :)
People can rise up at any time and start destroying the machines that guard them.
It’s not bad enough yet but at some point, people won’t accept it anymore. Probably when they have almost nothing left to fight for.
