But that’s the fun part. I switch OSes so I can get back into configuring.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What package manager do you use for arch based distros?
1·3 months agoThe flatpak version of discord is able to fetch for updates when launching the app without needing to system update. And for some reason it is specifically on a system update. Updating only discord does not update the version even after modifying the build_info.json. and I could disable updates, but that shouldn’t be necessary unless discord is pushing updates that are actively making the experience worse.

I have only ever had this issue with discord on arch. Whenever discord has an update, it will not fetch the update, but it tells me that an update can be downloaded.
This is the situation with discord through aur. https://karx.xyz/blog/discord/
I do not know the air branch
Also, I am trying to convince my friends to switch to element instead of discord, but they have been stubborn.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What package manager do you use for arch based distros?
2·3 months agoI partially disagree. I have found that some flatpaks are better than otherwise for updating the app. When I use the air branch of discord on arch, discord does not update automatically and I need to complete a system upgrade and modify a Jason file. The flatpak version updates automatically with no problems.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•how can mobile phones possibly get hacked ?? I mean we use Android or iOS phones, which are pretty much secure, right ??🤔🤔🤔
6·3 months agoThe only true secure way is to go back in time and stop the device from ever being created so no.one thinks to go back in time to stop you from throwing it into the sun. You may have to kill yourself though as you will be the only person who is aware of a phone that could have existed, if we are working with branching timeline theory.
I use to have windows 11 on a separate drive until an update broke windows and the drive. I’ve been happier ever since.
Let’s not get crazy. The Apple fanboys would rather chew razorblades before giving up their macs.
Gnome would be good for me as a tablet Desktop Environment, but for desktop I’m hyped up on hyprland.
I use arch btw.

161·2 years agoI hope this is a direction for a real cure. My wife is type 1 and it’s crazy how much it seems like she’s just a cash cow for pharmaceutical companies. Everything is expensive and her life is a subscription model.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What is the most painless and minimal way to dual boot these days?
2·2 years agoYou make windows sound like a hibernating beast.
I just installed endeavor an hour ago. I switched from kubuntu. I love the style of the is and arch programs seem to work better out of the box compared to Debian.
I don’t think it’s really much different. What makes windows feel more convenient is that everyone generally learns how to use it first. I think if you took a person that is not familiar with either, they would be able to figure out both OS at around the same time.
I have not had any issues printing on Linux. Although I use ubunutu instead of arch so maybe that’s the reason. I also use an Epson printer which I have never had an issue hooking up to any PC over WiFi.
Floorp is the best option simply by name alone. I love floorping for information.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Why Are You Staying On Windows 11?
2·2 years agoI suppose you could just use arch Linux to get away from pop-os and flatpaks.

24·2 years agoI have found that steam proton is a powerful wine machine. I’m not sure if it would help with any of the programs you are trying to run as it does have limits, but I’ve been shoving a ton of .exe files into steam and they usually work flawlessly.
Well now I feel silly for not thinking about doing that.
For me it’s installing a new OS every six months for a fun new experience.
I only use palemoon because it uses the best version of Firefox.
