I live up on a mountain but I get 4G and 5G service, so my Internet is one of those 5G boxes. It’s usually pretty fast, but recently it’s been chugging along (luckily only for a handful of minutes at a time before going back to normal for a while)

Yeah but only about 20 seconds
Latency in my life is CRAZY
My Internet is so slow right now that this picture took like 20 seconds to finally appear
The chortle when I finally saw it was absolutely worth it
I’m American and always thank the staff pretty much no matter where I am, I don’t think I get puzzled looks
Maybe it was the location (I’m in Tennessee, for example) or your accent (assuming you have an Australian accent)
“we found your fingerprints on the body”
Yeah I may have reached my hand inside and felt around a little my bad
Hey! As a person who used to use reddit but got tired of how terrible it was then moved to the first Lemmy instance I could find, I… Agree? I’m not really sure.
11.6 mega bites
I’ll definitely check some of those out, thanks! I have a little experience with Linux since every self hosted server PC I’ve built has always had Ubuntu Server, but even then I was tempted to try and dual boot Mint
As Microsoft adds ads in more places more and more, I consider moving over to Linux but I just have too many files and weird Windows only programs that I use that I can’t
I also haven’t really found a desktop environment I really like yet, so I’m open to suggestions for dual booting!
When I first saw that I was like “great, I have a virus”
Nope, just Windows
Almost every time I restart my Windows PC from an update, it sits on the “closing apps screen” or “restarting” screen then gives up completely and I have to force it to shut down/restart
And, just about every other time I restart with an update, it closes apps and then just fully shuts down after the update!
It’s super graceful! 😭
I had a laptop a while back with a fingerprint scanner that would work for one day, then stop working completely. I reinstalled the drivers, and it would work for a day and then stop again. I eventually gave up using the fingerprint scanner until I “upgraded” the laptop to Windows 11, and it worked again. No idea if it still works, since I rarely use that laptop now
You could either have the world’s worst luck, or you are genuinely cursed
Alternatively, you keep spilling coffee on your devices and going into a blind fit of cleaning rage that blocks out the memory of the original coffee spill
I learned how to flintknap a little, and it was super fun. I heard buying rocks can be expensive if you don’t live near where they’re plentiful, but what hobby doesn’t get expensive? I went to the class with my brother in law and he got absolutely lost in the sauce working on his flint, and didn’t talk to anyone else there
It can be tiring but it’s definitely fun seeing what you’ve made (even if you’re not very good at it like me) and besides, you get to say you’re hitting rock/buying rock so there’s even more fun to be had!
I have a windows laptop with a fingerprint sensor that worked exactly like this lol
I’d reinstall the driver, it would work for a day, then stop working. One day I updated the laptop to Windows 11 and I think it fixed it, but is it worth the ads coming soon? I will see.
I was setting up a Plex server, but when I noticed I had to pay to be able to play my own content on my phone I immediately switched to jellyfin. Haven’t been able to test it yet, but as long as I don’t need to pay them to be able to watch my own content on my own devices on my own network, I’ll be happy!
It’s alright now, thanks for the suggestion though! The provider was just having awful outages
I actually had starlink a while back, the latency was worse than my 5G/4G box so I didn’t stick with it
