Several kids from my elementary school disappeared, never to be heard from again. This happened again in middle school, and twice in high school.

Just because you weren’t paying attention back then or don’t remember now doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. As you said, crime was worse then.

Basically any time someone says “This didn’t happen back in my day!” the response can be “the dead ones can’t talk about it.”

If we didn’t have this, my kids would have a lot less freedom. Knowing where they are gives me much more peace of mind to let them roam further, and for longer than I would otherwise 🤷‍♂️

  • And these social media outbursts aren’t accomplishing what they think they’re accomplishing.

I’m extremely technical, but not actively into Linux, though I’ve set up various distros dozens up times. These posts have driven me away from Linux in an extremely hard way - anyone with opinions like the Kernel team simply don’t deserve support, and Linus is clearly past his prime and making bad decisions. This has shown me that Linux is going to (likely already has) slowly stop improving due to its explicitly anti-progress leadership. Until a fork with good leaders manages to take a real market share, the OS will stagnate.

I’m sure this is a minority opinion, but to claim that the social media blitz hasn’t had its intended effect is objectively false. Fuck the kernel team.

  • Obviously shitty, but you seem to understand that and are working to stop. Nobody was permanently or seriously harmed, and you’re working on making reparations to the person that you harmed the most, even if they don’t know it.

Sounds like you were a shitty kid that didn’t know better, and that you’ve gained some forethought. Sucks that it mostly came from fear of consequences for yourself instead of empathy to others, but it also seems like you’re on the right path.

It’s okay to grow and to learn how to be a better person. Keep going. Seconding the other commenter that suggested therapy - even if not directly about this.
