Right? Jellyfin is awesome

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Voyager changed the default instance to lemmy.zipEnglish
8·6 months agoI could see that argument, but I also wanted to pick the best instance for most people, not necessarily an instance that works in every country with every shitty law. We’re all volunteers here.
And I might change in the future, or create a way for the app to chose a fallback default instance for a better user experience.

3·9 months agoI have no idea what OP is talking about here, it sounds like they’re only judging the app on its animation speed.
In the plex PLAYER, I constantly have to restart my tv, glitches, audio out of sync, black screen etc, stutters randomly. Incredibly annoying when I’m trying to watch something. I haven’t had a single playback issue yet with the jellyfin player. It just works
Edit: oh and how can I forget: in the plex player, sometimes “pause” just… didn’t fucking work?! Lmao. I had to exit the player and re enter. So annoying.

5·9 months agoIf the apps don’t work for you then I’d stick to plex. But I had the opposite experience, especially with the Plex Android TV app, it is so shitty… And the Jellyfin Android TV app is rock solid

7·9 months agoI actually had the opposite experience, better subtitle support without transcoding the video track with Jellyfin

8·1 year agoTo be completely honest, if you want a healthy 3rd party app ecosystem, the official UI and backend need to be completely separated with a publicly documented API.
Biggest win with Lemmy, and biggest fluff with kbin. And it shows when it comes to 3rd party app ecosystem. People wanted to build apps for kbin….

Cosmic is subjectively the best DE out there. Popos 24 is scheduled for release in a week, it’s awesome.
It’s a Ubuntu fork so it’s easy to follow Ubuntu based guides. Starting with 24 they’re going to stay much more in sync with Ubuntu LTS.
Besides that, modern kernel, out of the box nvidia and disk encryption. Oh and pop is maintained by system76 that ships actual hardware (laptops and desktops) so it’s in their own best interest to have good modern hardware support. It’s a fantastic distro
