  • I’m setting up something similar using Unraid and VMs. This route would probably be more of a challenge for you technically… But if you’re willing to learn, and pay, Unraid sounds like it would be a good fit for what you’re trying to accomplish.

  • Because like it or not, actually paying for stuff is the only way to save journalism and by extension our democracies.

The alternative is to link shitty clickbait / AI spam. At least this way:

    1. People might be encouraged to pay for journalism.
    2. There are many ways to bypass the paywall for those who won’t or can’t pay.

    Please don’t ban paywalls.

  • Why not both?

I use syncthing for transferring files around my local network, and nextcloud for sharing files with others.

IMO these are related tools but designed with very separate use cases. Use the right tool for the job.

  • Why is it a bad way to handle things?

I have an alias set up and SDKs enabled. The experience is indistinguishable from a regular install. But you could also layer it onto the os image or install it in user space if you don’t like flatpaks for the extra resource usage or something. That’s a complete non issue for me though.

  • I guess that’s one perspective. Another one might be that their marriage wasn’t as great as they thought it was in the first place.

Kids are stressful, no argument there. But blaming kids because their marriage buckled under the added stress just feels like an easy excuse. I suspect there were deeper issues that those people weren’t particularly interested in exploring.
