What wording would you have them use?

The stated reason behind these laws is to “protect children.”

Friends don’t let friends use Facebook.

Interesting… I wonder why?

Haven’t heard of kjiji, I’ll have to check it out.
It’s essentially Craigslist, but in Canada.
Craigslist doesn’t really have a user base here.

The same thing might have happened if she bought a Mac and needed some Windows only software.
Is it off, or is it an optional module that doesn’t have to be adding bloat to my system if I don’t want to use it?
LLMs can take up a pretty big storage footprint.
My biggest issue with that is the amount of bloat a full local LLM implementation would add.
But if it’s an optional module that you can choose to add (or choose not to add) after the fact, I have no complaint.
My kids only knew Linux from the first day they used a computer.
They didn’t have any difficulty transitioning between that at home and the chromebooks or windows desktops the school had.

Firefox has an option called copy link without trackers
Thunderbird also does that . (Not surprising since it’s also a Mozilla project)

If I were buying today, it wouldn’t be a smart TV
Good luck finding one of those.

Those shouldn’t exist at all, and if they have to, the settings should be expressly asked about as part of the initial setup, not buried in a menu that nobody goes to unless they’re specifically looking for the options.

Black Friday, the shopping day is a gimmick
And one that’s been exported to other countries who don’t even have the same national holiday adjacent to that friday giving people the excuse to shop more on that particular day.
Here it’s nothing but a cynical corporate cash grab.

And scrub the metadata off the pictures before posting them.

No your hair salon, grocery store, car wash, restaurant, etc. **doesn’t ** need my email address or phone number to “improve customer sercice”.
Fuck off, just take my money and give me the damn thing I’m teyi g to buy.

how do I know someone hasn’t placed a bomb inside
You learn enough about electronics to identify things that shouldn’t be in there, and then you open up and analyze your devices.
Alternatively, you could not become involved with an organization that is at war with a powerful country who has a capable spy/espionage agency.
I’ve used old laptops as battery backed up NAS boxes.
Obviously assumes that you can install a reasonably large drive and that the battery still has some life left in it.
I was about to say something similar.
I suspect that people in their target market not being made aware of it is part of the problem that is leading them to shut down.
You don’t necessarily have to put in the time to remove them. You can also quickly re-decorate them with a bit of spray paint and then move along before anyone has a chance to react to your presence…
