A domain is a url, like oaksprout.com. A provider is a server/computer that the domain points at. Many services sell both together at an upcharge, but a domain itself usually costs like ~$15 a year

If an IP address is a mailing address, imagine a domain as a way to pay the post office so people can just address it to oaksprout. You could have them forward your mail to your house, or you could send it to a PO box or business address, and change it whenever you want

The provider is like the mailbox in this metaphor… It receives the mail and holds it for you

  • Not the government provided identity verification service…I can see the use case for that , even if the government is an untrusted party

I mean the age gating laws going around. They’re suddenly popping up all at once because there’s a not so secret cabal of surveillance state freaks trying to make 1984 happen

And I do mean freaks. They’re death cultists trying to bring about the end of the world either because they think they’ll stand even higher on top of the rubble for some reason or from quasi religious psychosis. Look up Peter Tiel and palantir if you want to learn more, it’s pretty disturbing stuff when you realize how many governments are buying into it

But these laws are being pushed so private companies can collect data on the population and sell monitoring back to the government. If the government is part of the demasking process, they’ll get everything they want neatly packaged

America hasn’t gone insane, our democracy has been hacked

We are not ok with any of this at an insane level of unity… More than we’ve had for anything in my lifetime. Congress members are resigning right now in the hopes of saving their careers

We’re up against the full weight of the global 1%. They’re trying to hollow out our county and leave it as a playground for billionaires

They own the media, the administration, the highest court, and to some extent our law making bodies

This is a disease. It’s coming for everyone if it isn’t stopped

No, humans can’t, scholars can. Most humans could learn historical materialism to the level they could pass a course on it, but the vast majority can’t apply this type of analytical lens in practice.

It’s a matter of disposition, the ability to look at a situation from multiple angles and question your beliefs about it isn’t something that can be taught, only learned. You can walk someone through it step by step over and over, even train them to go through a process when prompted, but without a certain disposition they’ll never actually use this ability without promoting

  • Ironically, that would probably end up with a different season of slop

The writers haven’t been subtle, though the episodes they’ve been directly saying they don’t know what people want from them and they keep getting told to be more like season 1

Well, we got something like season 1. The characters undid their character development and the episodes are aimless riffs off of classic sci-fi and cosmic horror

I think I’d just get the writing staff off of social media and pay them to hang out in a comfy room until they have an idea they’re excited about again
