  • Ironically, that would probably end up with a different season of slop

The writers haven’t been subtle, though the episodes they’ve been directly saying they don’t know what people want from them and they keep getting told to be more like season 1

Well, we got something like season 1. The characters undid their character development and the episodes are aimless riffs off of classic sci-fi and cosmic horror

I think I’d just get the writing staff off of social media and pay them to hang out in a comfy room until they have an idea they’re excited about again

  • Imitation meat is very highly processed food. I’ve never had lab grown meat, I’d need to know the details to judge it

I do like me a good bean burger though…I make big batches of dried beans and mash them, it’s great on rice, as a dip, you can fry it, you can add whatever you want to make infinite variations

But every once in a while I like to have a good burger. Like a few times a year… Honestly, if anything, meat tastes better because I rarely eat it.

Imitation stuff just doesn’t compare, maybe you could convince me it’s meat, but you’ll never convince me it’s better than “ok”. And plenty of meat is just ok… Most of it even

I’d rather eat my beans every day, and eat my steak and tuna a few times a year and enjoy every moment of it

  • You could mount it on top or vertically behind the rack and have it still look decent and be functional with a little handiwork

You still are going to need a router, although you don’t need a fancy router and a fancy switch, you just have to make sure you’re not bottlenecked and have to design things differently

2.5 gb is probably more than enough, but you could probably get away with 1 gb if you aren’t doing a lot of file transfers - if it’s just backups and streaming video, if you want to get fancy it might become a bottleneck.

PoE is kinda niche so unless you have specific plans to use it, it probably won’t come up

The switch supports vlans, so you could get fancy with a VPN gateway and access these things remotely with a Virtual DMZ, but realistically that’s a bitch to set up and you could just make a real DMZ with a router/wifi access point combo. Or just forget the DMZ and have a VPN gateway that connects to the local network

I really just don’t know enough about how you want to use this to get more specific. This is probably more switch than you need, but if you’re not connecting from outside it’ll probably work great for the LAN

Networking is all about bottlenecks, and I doubt this will be a bottleneck for a good while

  • Thanks I appreciate that. I do know that approach works because I’ve seen it tested, and done it myself

It’s definitely a challenge… They just can’t understand why privacy matters. But you can squeak in ideas on the fringes. They will never understand why it matters systematically

Just planting ideas, like “say the word and I’ll remove all your ads” or “don’t buy a pre built desktop, use pcpartpicke and you’ll save hundreds of dollars” gives you authority. It’s a limited budget, but you can translate it into "avoid this to stay safe*

It’s all like that… It extends even into leaders of thee letter agencies, who I didn’t realize I was presenting to at the time

  • Technical communication is a skill, not one I’m great at, but one I have to do often. There’s a methodology to it. You have to make them care, and then you have a limited amount of interest in the topic that you can’t use up. You have to recognize they don’t care about computers, only convenience and simple tricks that make them more confident in using them. And yes, you definitely have to listen and adapt to what they’re interested in

But yeah, I don’t know you at all. I don’t really doubt your intentions either, you’re probably very nice. It did feel patronizing to have what I think are some pretty well thought out suggestions (grounded in my own experience) dismissed out of hand by a stranger though

If you came to share your experiences and give advice, I’d have responded very differently
