  • I reject that framing. It’s a loaded question, it’s loser bullshit and I won’t have it

I’m not saying vote every election. I’m saying win every election.

How do you win? Not by betting on the lesser evil. You do it by putting in the work to have a candidate you believe in. You do it by starting today, so that when the election comes your vote will not be a compromise.

You should feel proud of each and every vote. And yes, you should vote every time… But now is not the time for voting, it’s time to campaign

So quit with the defeatist bullshit and pitch in. You’ll feel less pessimistic when you’re surrounded by winners who work for a better tomorrow

  • I didn’t say “no”

I said it’s loser talk. It’s weak. Just like the Democrats. Which is why they’re the enemy - they’re in the way, and if we don’t sweep out the Schumers and Jefferies the DNC will continue to collaborate with the Nazis against populist progressive candidates

You can’t adopt their framing. Not maga’s framing, or the DNC framing. Reject it, just like I reject your premise that voting is just harm reduction.

If you want to win, you can’t talk like that. You can’t bet on “safe” candidates. You can’t settle for “not a Nazi”. You have to demand more, you have to have fire and speak of hope for the future

  • You’re missing my point entirely.

That’s loser talk. That’s how you lose elections. That’s how Trump won, twice. It barely got Biden in the door, because Trump was currently in office

You don’t have to be the less bad choice. You have to be the good choice. You have to stand for something. You have to have a message. You have to fight. You have to make enemies.

A Democrat will win the next election, no matter what. But in 2028? It very likely will be 4 more years of fascism if all we can muster is “well, it’s our guy or another fascist”

The only way to stop this is to get populist progressive candidates in office. In every office, in every election.

The Overton window needs to be moved left, or this never ends.

Quit with the loser talk and get involved with local elections. Go join your local DSA or phone bank with progressive victory. Help pave the way for a good candidate

  • It’ll be a bit late then.

I know how compliance works, and this is setting off all my alarm bells, and the EFF and privacy community agrees… This has truly horrifying implications

If you’re going to let human rights be further erroded because it came in a pretty explanation, not much I can do. But when the next patriot act comes back to bite us, remember one thing… When they say it’s about the children, it never is

  • That’s what they say it does. What it really does is make sites responsible for “harmful content” shown to minors

It’s all completely vague. You say it just affects the kids mode accounts… The bill doesn’t say anything about that. It doesn’t provide any guidance on how to properly comply, just like the porn id laws.

You can’t assume the government is going to use this for what they say they will. You have to look at what this would let them do as written

Ultimately, this gives the government censorship powers over what is allowed in the “open” Internet, and to IDs users in the “adult” Internet

  • Because that’s not what this is. It’s just like the porn site laws

How does a site comply? Maybe they use AI to look at your face, maybe they have you send in your license. The law isn’t clear what’s enough to prove it.

How long until third parties step up? Nice convenient orgs that can sell the collected data that can guarantee compliance, because they sell the data to the government directly. Or even first parties… Facebook and Google are happy to sell this kind of info on their users

This isn’t about protecting kids, it’s about identifying users. What they say this is for is good, what the laws actually do is far removed from that

  • I follow laws mainly because of my own sense of morality - I don’t kill, I steal only when I feel I need to, and I don’t commit fraud because these things are obviously generally wrong.

I follow stupid laws (such as needing insurance, paying income taxes, or not speeding) out of fear of punishment. These are issues I’ll basically never have, because I’m good at driving and don’t make enough to affect state level operations

  • Yes. Because all my life, we’ve been frogs in a steadily warming pot, and the heat has been cranked up to max

People are angry. People are protesting, doing vandalism with a prison sentence longer then murder, people are raging at their futures being cut off

Everything creates a reaction. The worse is gets, the faster it gets worse, the larger the reaction.

The best future is the one where people get so angry we stop. That’s all it takes to kill the game - if enough people, even for a short time, stop playing - it all stops

The world is robust. Humans are robust. If we stopped killing both, everything could recover shockingly fast

Things will get worse, things are very bad already, but it’s not over. I feel lighter every time the stock market drops, because it’s imaginary but the hurt is real.

The more and faster the hurt, the more people will wake the fuck up and stop this
