Flex is a clean workout log book. You can add exercise sets and track you progress over time. As simple as that. I really like using it.
Shortcomings: It has no large exercise list with images or descriptions. Therefore, it is not really suited for beginners. It can be difficult/annoying to enter a new exercise because you can’t simply add a set by clicking on a + somewhere on the screen. You always have to type some unique part of the name first. Once, you are used to this quirk, it’s ok. There is no server, you can only use it on one mobile device. No IBAN for donations but at least monero.

I’ve used it for over a year now. I agree it’s not entirely for beginners, but it’s not terribly out of range either. I like that’s it’s mobile only personally, I don’t want a server. I’m a fan of on device backups that sync with my NAS, but I can see the appeal if you use multiple devices for some reason.
One thing that is nice in an odd way is how it handles custom exercises. You can track similar things differently to really hone in on progress. For example, I’ll have a leg day where leg extensions are first in the workout (I’ll call machine leg extensions) and on my second leg day it comes after squats where I’m less fresh (so I’ll call it machine leg extension 2) that way I can track progress on them separately since my performance is different based on exercise order.
The UI is nice, the graphing is nice. Honestly the most missing feature (as of two weeks ago at least) is either pre-loading my last weeks numbers into the current weeks exercise list so I know what numbers my goals for that day are. I usually just flip between the program and the history to keep track. “Ok last week I did 55 for 7, let’s try to get 8 or 9 this time”. It’s not bad, but it would be nice
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Your method of using the custom exercises is incredibly smart! You can see the progress with comaprable prerequisites. So far, I just accepted it as long as I progress over time.
I see. I gave up on the plans even though they are nice! It is too cumbersome to go back and forth. I stay in the history tab and just know my plans in and out. That way I have the old values visible. Also, there’s no direct connection to the history graph which is a bid sad. As you said, the app is really nice, I don’t complain. I’m happy with it.
Go back and forth too tbh. I have times where I just use the plans and just push whatever I can and record it, other times I just stay in the history and just add what I know to be my plan. It definitely works, but could be better
