I too am upset Rust dropped Linux support a few years ago and never developed the Vulkan graphics engine they had promised. I understand the anticheat issues but still, it’s a fun game. Figure it out, Facepunch.

Man, I think I still had an active Fark account more recently than I visited tucows but I remember it.

1·2 months agoMaby if you are a wistleblower or someone the government would want to keep track of, they may somehow engineer a biological weapon that does not harm but will replicate itself just enough for it to be released from behind and let them know where you are.
You know, if that infamous author hadn’t written Do Not Create The Torment Nexus: A Cautionary Tale, there is an excellent chance the Torment Nexus would never have been built.
Guy came into my workplace this week and I was saying I was slowly getting into developing a game engine with SDL. When he heard I was using ubuntu he recommended Bazzite, saying he has no trouble with it and uses his machine mostly for gaming. Is it Debian based or something else? At least it’s not that meme distro Arch I guess, might try it

2·7 months agoThanks, that’s a load off my mind. It doesn’t really sound true but the bubbling action of peroxide always seemed a little ominous. Easy to see how this rumor started, it could be generations old.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Anyone else not understand the hate for hydrogen peroxide?English
42·7 months agoNot sure if this is true but someone once told me that using hydrogen peroxide on wounds of a certain size might lead to a bubble of gas appearing in the bloodstream, which would be undesirable. I dunno, I rinse my mouth with diluted h2o2 occasionally and might put it on a small scrape but I’m a little leery after hearing that. Also the “cauterizing” effect seems like it might slow healing or cause a more notable scar.

I’m assuming to some degree diagnoses of this and similar disorders are affected by the replication crisis in psychology, and that many people just made bad choices or made the wrong enemies and got labelled with them at some point by our cursed medical system. Estimates on what percentage of the diagnosed are legitimately and undeniably ill with these disorders? Also I’d take a narcissist over a psychopath or sociopath any day.
Somewhat off topic what you’re discussing but I’ve been checking the bsky feed anonymously every day or two and a lot of those recent space pictures are AI. Didn’t see those a week ago, seems to be something new.
Sure there will be lots of wars and famine but predicting human extinction as a result of climate change is a bit of a stretch. Even in a bad scenario where 99% of humanity dies off things could still turn back around, regrow and we try again for an advanced civilization in a couple millennia.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Retail employees of Lemmy, how has working in a clothing store changed your perspective on clothing sizes and body image?English
31·1 year agoThanks! I’ve done office work too but retail always has this appeal where you get to work directly with the random public and provide an actual, immediate service of value. I really wish it paid better but its frankly incredible to get such a broad view of your regional community if you can figure out how to get people to open up. Having good coworkers that support one another in an active environment is so great too.
Of course, many complaints and concerns about how the industry is changing currently, with AI and election time anxiety, corporate weirdness etc but the site I’m at runs well and has it’s own community that serves the larger area. Amazing stuff, I hope I find a job with a thriving wage that has at least some of those qualities someday.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Retail employees of Lemmy, how has working in a clothing store changed your perspective on clothing sizes and body image?English
8·1 year agoI’ve worked retail where clothes were a component and the most frequent returns are for clothes too small, like a large exchanged for an XL or an XXL or the largest available size returned for store credit. There are a lot more of the very small sizes than there are very small people, anyone who fits into an S or M has a lot of options and not much competition. This is also more true of women’s clothes than men’s.
Also, clothes aimed more at an older, like 60s 70s years old consumer will have more reasonable size distribution in my experience, but the clothes will be extremely frumpy and odd.
Also, shop the clearance rack, especially when it’s been recently filled with new stuff, there is so much decent cheap clothing out there for like a couple bucks a piece.
I worked doing returns frequently and a lot of women doing returns clearly had the idea they would get clothes that would be fun and racy and it didn’t work out the way they saw it in their mind’s eye, which makes me happy they at least tried. Chase that dream!
I feel like I should mention something about fast fashion and slave labor producing so much clothing today. Also, quite a bit of what is produced doesn’t sell and where does it go? They have to make room for the new stuff.
I dont know if any of that is what you are looking for OP but those are my thoughts on the matter.
I’d tell them to knock 50-70 off for the condition of the surfaces. No idea about the model and specs or if that’s worth it but that’s an ugly case on it and I would be grossed out using it, would probably have to tape a sheet of paper over the worn out spots to be comfortable touching that surface.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Non-Americans who have been to the US.. What is the weirdest thing about America that Americans don't realize is weird?English
3·1 year ago- Your police are run by the local counties. I think your schools also? I know you have state and federal police also, but most places only have police and schools at those levels.
This might be dependent on state but any place I’ve ever lived has had 3 kinds, state police, county “sherrifs department” police and town/city police. To hear theres a part of the US with sherrifs department police is odd to me, usually the state police would take that role in rural areas without their own police department in my experience.

Really? I might have to boot up Steam and try it again. Nice, thanks! You use Wine or something to run it?
