  • I’m 17, and either dislike or don’t know most of them. Here’s my thoughts on most of them, if anybody’s curious:

Star wars - don’t like it

James Bond - never seen it

Lord of the rings - never seen ir

Sherlock Holmes - don’t like it

    Batman - hate it

    Superman - never seen it

    Spiderman - don’t like it

Mission Impossible -never seen of it

Mario - played and enjoyed Mario kart, that’s about it

    Zelda - never seen it

    Pokemon - never seen it

Indiana Jones - don’t like it

Back to the Future - I saw it but don’t really remember anything from it, mostly forgettable

The Karate Kid - I watched it when I was too young to care, but I think I’d like it if I watched it now

A Nightmare on Elm Street - liked it

Friday the 13th - I know it, but can’t remember if I’ve seen it

Child’s Play - watched one of them, got bored halfway through

    It - liked it

    Rambo - liked it

    Rocky - never seen it

Jurassic Park - seen it, no strong feelings

The Matrix - got bored by the 30 minute mark and turned it off

The Terminator - never seen it

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - don’t like it

Transformers - never seen (or played?) it

The Simpsons - seen most of it, love some of it

Barbie - heard the song, nothing more

GI Joe - not a clue who/what that is

He-Man/Masters of the universe - as above

Mickey Mouse - I sometimes watched Mickey mouse club house before school, but wasn’t a huge fan

Toy Story - I watched (and liked) the first two

    Looney Tunes - liked it

King Kong - I’ve heard of it but don’t know if it’s a toy or a tv show or what

Godzilla - I saw one of the sequels and enjoyed it

Planet of the Apes - never seen it

Mad Max - never seen it, but I live in Australia and like the outback, so this gets quoted at me at least monthly

The Muppets - I think the Muppets had a cameo in toy story or something, but I don’t really know much about it

The Godfather - I really really tried to watch and enjoy this earlier this year. I turned my phone off so I wouldn’t get distracted, I sat down, I ordered a pizza, I did my very best to watch and enjoy it, but I was so mind numbingly bored by the hour and a half mark that I gave up

Ghostbusters - I think I’ve seen bits and pieces

Alien - no, but I have seen ET

Star Trek - I don’t know or care what the difference is between this and star war

Robocop - I watched one of them on late night tv a few years ago, when I was around half the age it was classified for. Barely remember it

Frankenstein - never seen (or read?) it

    Dracula - never seen

    Tarzan - never seen

Conan the Barbarian - never even heard of it

    Jaws - I saw one

    Harry Potter - hate it

The Incredible Hulk - hate ir

The Dollars Trilogy - not a clue who or what this is

Sesame Street - don’t like it

The Hannibal Lecter series - don’t know who or what this is

MASH - I’m pretty sure this was always on after the Simpsons finished at 7, and everybody loves Raymond was on before. I didn’t like either of them. But then again, I was 5 or 6 and only interested in the Simpsons and nothing else, so I probably wasn’t the target audience

  • I block about 20 or so communities. A few are ideological ones that although I don’t dislike/disagree with, I just don’t want to hear about, a couple of the star trek ones, pretty much anything with “news” or “politics” in the name, since that tends to be very American centric, or in the case of world news, mostly things only Americans would care about, and I also blocked the Baldur’s gate and helldivers communities because they were constantly in my /all feed a while ago. I also block lemmit.online or whatever it is (an entire instance), because it was just reposts of Reddit posts made by a bot which annoyed me when I wanted to search for things

My instance federates with Lemmy World, but because of some technical issue with server lag, we don’t see posts from lemmy.world for about a week (posts in LW communities from non LW users do pop up, but upvotes and sometimes comments don’t federate, so they won’t appear in all unless I scroll really deep). That has the effect of essentially meaning I don’t see any posts in LW communities in /all unless I sort by top month or new

  • Seriously. In Australia, you have to “activate” your Sim card with your full name, email, bank details (depending on the carrier), and a copy of your driver’s license. Hell, I bought my last phone directly from a carrier, completely outright, with cash, prepaid with no plan, and they took a photocopy of my drivers license. Buying phones elsewhere they’ve never done that to me, as long as it’s prepaid and bought outright, but for some reason the major telcos do it for all purchases

  • Is Lemmy growing or shrinking?

It looks like Lemmy has shrunk overall since our peak of 68k active users in July last year to our low point (since rexxit anyways) of 32k, but we seem to be attracting more MAUs now and have climbed back up to 51k.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by diversity, or at least what measure of it you’re seeking, but if you mean instances, there’s currently ~770 instances online, a bit over half of our peak in July. I’m not aware of any major instances that have closed down yet though, so I assume it’s mainly small, single user instances that have shit down, as well as a few hyper niche ones with very few members.

Average users per instance has also been increasing and is getting close to the levels we were at in june when everybody was joining the same few instances. That peak was 690 users per instance, that dropped to a low of 321 in July, presumably because there was more of an emphasis on getting people spread out after initial influx of people who just needed to go somewhere.

There was something interesting I noticed in the stats, in Feb there was a major drop in total posts of almost 5 million. I don’t know what exactly happened, but our total posts halved, so perhaps that’s why nobody’s been posting updates.

It’s even more obvious on the 120 day graph

Overall, it appears we have shrunk compared to our peak during rexxit, but we have been steadily increasing in both active users and posts (excluding the major drop in Feb) since our low point a couple of months after rexxit. That’s about what I’d expect, and quite good compared to most popular corpo sites which lose a lot more percentage of their MAUs after they’ve peaked. Threads lost something like 80% of their userbase a week after it launched. Also I don’t think that peak during rexxit will be our biggest peak. We’ll probably continue steadily gaining users until Reddit fuck up again and we get another influx, like what happened with mastodon.

FYI all these stats are fairly easy to find. I like FediDB because it’s got a more friendly UI, but Fediverse Observer has a more plain UI, so is better for posting graphs and such. But that’s the beauty of the fediverse, we can all access the same things through all sorts of UIs

I’ve never seen one in Australia. We don’t really prepay for petrol here. Some servos in the dodgiest suburbs do make you between certain hours, but I’ve never seen one that makes everybody always prepay or one that actually takes your card. Most of the time you’d go inside to prepay anyways, but on the few pumps I’ve seen that do have card payments on the physical pump it’s either tap or swipe, no insert, and no holding cards hostage
