The image editing part is already solved. The problem is the massive library of templates, which are copyright some unknown person, hence a legal liability. If you need to upload your own template you may as well use GIMP - it’s not like it’s hard to create a few text layers after adding the template. Prepositioning them and scaling them isn’t that big a deal.
All the information I found about the “creative suite” is that it’s Krita, Kdenlive, Darktable, etc.

The only thing I have to fuck around with like that is the setting for Windows Update itself. It’s pretty annoying but also pretty different from an AI feature (because the modification I want to make delays updates, which is less secure). Maybe you’re thinking of something specific?
Anyway, yes, if they add an AI agent that you can’t turn off without hacks, that would be bad. But given that they haven’t done that, complaining about the law (without saying what the law is lacking) is silly. What would the law say - “don’t add features to software if any user doesn’t want it?” there is no way to make what the commenter above said make sense.
But the Steam Machine is also likely to be positioned as a console competitor on some level, just like the Steam Deck - sure the Deck is just a PC in a handheld form factor, but it’s designed to be a handheld console.
“Those who care about the freedom PC gaming affords” surely aren’t in the market for a pre-built machine whose main attractiveness will be convenience and support, either. I play PC games because it’s what I grew up playing, where I’m most comfortable, and it gives me better access to a wide variety of games at good prices than console games do. I can play in higher fidelity than an equivalent-generation console, and I can play games which are poorly suited to controllers (ironically: like Call of Duty. Which I haven’t played since Black Ops 4, but I have played other games with restrictive anti-cheat) For me, it’s not about some abstract concept of freedom at all. I also use Linux for everything except gaming for concrete reasons.
Saying the Steam Machine sucks because of this is idiotic. But saying it will limit its reach, or is a reason to not buy it, or whatever, is totally legit. My PC plays as broad a gamut of games as possible, and while I’ll look into it, I’ll take a lot of convincing to potentially have to put up with the Linux desktop issues I put up with routinely on my main (non-gaming) computer. Not being able to play my friends’ flavour of the month would be a big red flag.

Speed is an absolute requirement for a launcher, and if one of the search providers is taking too long it needs to be removed until its speed makes it usable. There’s no way I want to wait for web results if they take between 1 and 10 seconds. The number of local results should always be such that it can be held in memory without being a burden, and return in an imperceptible amount of time.

Do the other effects for switching desktops, like the default slide, not accomplish the same thing? I also find that having no animation makes it harder to keep track of where things are, but just have the sliding one

I don’t think randomly going off-pitch is an aesthetic goal; I think if you wanted to do that you could easily, in an electric instrument, introduce a random pitch bend. No-one ever does… What people do do is introduce intentional pitch bends - vibrato is an obvious example, but also pushing the tuning of certain intervals outside what the typical equal-tempered distances would be.
The reason I asked the question above the way I did is because it seems universally acknowledged that intonation on the theremin synthesiser is significantly harder than on a fretless string-instrument, which affords the same expressiveness in pitch. Unless there is genuinely an advantage to its setup (and, again, randomly bad pitch is not one IMO) should we not want to make it easier?
I, of course, was not saying I demanded perfect intonation, which does not exist. But intonation that I, an at-best-moderately critical listener, can tell is way off, is not what I would aim for and I have heard that in a professional recording.
Why don’t I reframe it: why would you not want an instrument which is like the theremin synthesiser but which instead of placing the hands in free space you place them on some kind of board? How does it get worse?
