Insert “xkcd” for everything. I am happy with the move to disallowing system pip install at least.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Manjaro let their SSL certificate expire again
4·4 days agoManjaro has always sold the illusion of “vibes based” stability. It worked well and even some laptops shipped with it. It’s self evident why it’s not an actual improvement but people want whatever value they assign to using arch.
I doubt, there isn’t much of a need for additional ways to obfuscate commands.

I have 15 years of experience and use Ubuntu. It doesn’t matter as much as people make it seem (including for tech savvy beginners)

Well done, I never could use bash much but can’t deny its useful

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's the easiest way to test the latest kernel?
3·8 days agoFedora has very nice infrastructure in place to recompile the kernel but you can do it on any distro. https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/quick-docs/kernel-build-custom/
If you don’t know what to look for it may be not be of much help.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Mastodon is testing easier ways to get you started in the fediverseEnglish
1·8 days agoThat’s odd (but believable), I think every server I ever used required a sign up to be manually approved so if you use one with open registration they may have stricter moderation for new users.
GNOME is one of the most common desktops used, don’t let loud users decide what you can and can’t enjoy. By the way, I hate GNOME.

This is half true, malware may target and look for weaknesses in it but the vendor responds faster too. But it is rare for a lot of time to be spent by “common” malware authors, since most countermeasures are defeated quickly.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Turkey prepares to block Steam and Epic Games. Hello, piracy!English
1·22 days agoThe tool is “Steamless”. I think there was a misunderstanding, games without steam DRM don’t need an emulator. I never ran into one that lacked DRM but used the API with no fallback, thus requiring an emulator.
I am sure they exist though.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Turkey prepares to block Steam and Epic Games. Hello, piracy!English
2·22 days agoYou are wrong, steam emulators are only necessary if the game uses steam DRM or relies on it for online functionality. You can try this with most indie games, or anything also sold on GOG.
You can remove the steam DRM wrapper as well quite easily if its the only one present.

3·25 days agoYou can use many KDE apps (konsole, dolphin, kate), and may be able to enable WSL. Look at powershell 7 and windows terminal, winget for a package manager.
Did something happen with Codium or do you just mean in general due to controlling extension marketplace, access to their closed source ones etc.
Edit: missed your other comment, never mind
