Give it some time and folks will be more willing to consider other ideas i think

lilpatchy2eyes@slrpnk.netto Linux@lemmy.ml•So, you've found the light. You are now a penguin herder...9·6 months agoSwitching to Ubuntu from Windows is the most controversial thing I’ve ever done. I don’t even talk about it very much, but some of my friends preemptively make passive aggressive comments about it if the subject of OSs come up and jump on any opportunity they find to make a case for Linux being less convenient than Windows. I haven’t felt this way since I tried vegetarianism.
All that’s to say I’m pretty wary of “helping others see the light.” There’s more than apathy out there and some people feel threatened by the idea of someone else taking steps to rid themselves of their dependence on Microsoft and the like.

(For example, in terms of attracting new users.)English121·7 months agoI just wish the top posts on the meme pages were more than just an anti-capitalist caption and a vaguely related image.

Unsurprising behavior from a community where the coolest person is the one who can put on the biggest tin foil hat. I appreciate the privacy community here but I think the concept itself leads to users decrying anything as insecure just because it makes them feel more knowledgeable.

Those cirrus clouds are typically made of ice crystals. A plane disturbed them, leaving a contrail of water. Water refracts light differently than ice, seen more clearly at dusk.

The Fediverse works, we have content, and anyone who decides to seek out a platform that offers what the Fediverse offers can join. Tell your friends about your experience if they might be interested but if they don’t stick with it you don’t have to be all salty about it.

lilpatchy2eyes@slrpnk.netto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How good you feel good about your privacy using apps such as Signal?5·10 months agoDid some searching. You’re referencing a podcast in which known propagandist and liar Tucker Carlson claims that an anonymous source of his implies the NSA broke into his Signal messages. Wish you’d qualified that in the post because that’s important context.
Don’t you think it’s way more likely that the guy blew his cover some other way? Googling hotels near the Kremlin or something? You know, because he’s a dumbass?
lilpatchy2eyes@slrpnk.netto Privacy@lemmy.ml•How good you feel good about your privacy using apps such as Signal?6·10 months agoIs there any reason to believe the message and sender can be read from the data sent to the push service? From my understanding, that should still be encrypted.

Ok, I think I misinterpreted yout comment to mean VPNs are not necessary. Thanks for the clarification.
Would you elaborate on this? Encrypting your traffic and not accessing sites from your actual IP address sounds pretty vital to privacy for me.
I’m not playing. My computer runs Ubuntu and I can’t get decent performance with Lutris.
