Eh, I keep a Windows 10 machine because Linux won’t run Reason even in wine. Everything else gets done on my laptop running Mint. Adobe does things that aren’t easily replaced. No point in shaming folks for the tools they use.

I like Mint so far after about 2 months. Ubuntu was seriously lacking.

Interesting. I can imagine this crowd making a big deal of it. The biggest hurdle for many of us to switch is the user base we have to turn to for help. There’s a lot of dissenting opinions and gatekeeping to muddle through. I’m liking Mint so far though. Thank you for the straightforward answer.

Noob here. What do you mean Linux isn’t the OS?

So as someone who tried Ubuntu first because it seemed like the easiest place to start, don’t. First off, I never could get Ardour to run right on it. Try Linux Mint. I switched this weekend and everything seems to work better and there appears to be a lot more available software when you aren’t stuck with Snaps.

Sounds like the solution you are looking for is self control. Nothing but yourself can stop you from just making another account.

Doing something because you want to is vastly different from expecting everything to be free.

Whenever I see FOSS offered as a solution I have to wonder if that person is paying for their own food, shelter, transportation and what have you, or if they are still living with their parents and not making any attempt to support themselves.

Nothing is free. There is a cost incurred at some point. The minimum cost is time, a finite commodity for all living beings, and effort, but other things require materials, which cost someone some time and effort to find, extract, or otherwise produce.

I certainly don’t say any of this in defense of capitalism, but “free” is a nonsense concept in human life. It simply doesn’t exist.

So, I have only ever known Windows, but am becoming more and more Linux curious. I see all these different distros you guys talk about and I have to ask, do all the distros run any of the available software or would I have to try to try to find one that will run what I’m interested in running? If so which distro will run the available music production software? I’m sick of microshaft. Help a brother out?
