Still cheaper than buying two sticks of RAM today

It sounds like maybe a rolling release distro like openSUSE Tumbleweed is not the best fit for you. The ‘fix the system after updates’ is supposed to be part of the fun for those that like rolling release.
I would suggest switching to a point release type distro, where you may end up with some bugs for a while, but they are the same bugs that you can figure out workarounds for.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Which private (no cloud requirement) wireless home security cameras save footage locally without monthly subscription?
3·2 months agoI haven’t seen it mentioned yet, but Lorex has options for wired and wireless cameras that store footage on the camera itself via sd card, or to a local NVR.
TIL 2k is not synonymous with QHD
I do the same. Some websites will not work claiming Firefox is not supported, but do some user agent spoofing and suddenly it works just fine. Just goes to show it is not actually the web engine that’s the problem.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•If we are living in a simulation, do you think it is running a FOSS OS/software or a proprietary one?
141·5 months agoProprietary. Whoever paid for our server did not spring for the premium version where every planet has sentient alien life.
To answer your question about Android apps, there is an application called Waydroid that can run on Linux phones. This essentially emulates Android and you can install apps on there. Some Play Store apps require access to Google Play Services, and even though MicroG tries to emulate it without being as privacy invasive, it is not perfect and some apps won’t run well or even at all.
I only use it for a few things that do not have any way to access through a web browser.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•When you haven't told anyone you use Linux for a while
9·6 months agoFor Arch users it’s only 5 minutes. MX Linux users it’s 3 1/2 minutes.
Edit: I actually meant to say NixOS users, but MX Linix users probably feel the same.
I’ve watched a couple videos on some of the dumb phones listed, as I was curious about alternatives as well. The ones that can install Signal are not true dumb phones and have android installed.
What sets then apart is the physical form factor is still very much dumb phone. That means it typically has a smaller screen, and a number pad style keyboard.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Evidence of cell phone surveillance detected at anti-ICE protest
3·7 months agoWhen I go to a protest with friends/family we leave our phones at home and then use basic walkie talkies. It’s open channel, so no privacy, but the main goal is to just communicate basics like “I’m safe.” We predetermine a couple of locations to meet up at if things get rough and we’re separated.
A program I have used to help with outlining is Manuskript. It has a series of questions it will ask you to help with character and world building. It also has a section to write the novel in and keep track of chapters.
It is a bit on the older side, with the last update about a year and a half ago. It is available on Flathub if you want to take a look: https://flathub.org/apps/ch.theologeek.Manuskript
Because it’s merely a figma of their imagination

I’m using an arm CPU and it works really well. There’s even a lot of Flatpaks that support arm to fill in any gaps. Debian even has a version supporting RISC-V
