It’s obviously RB but there’s some truth in there. I remember back in like 2008 when I was first introduced to Linux, kinda felt like magic that there was another OS besides windows and Mac. I had an old powerPC iBook collecting dust that I installed Ubuntu on. Honestly I was just toying around with it for a few weeks. I remember being confused by a lot of things kinda like this post and honestly not even knowing where to look for information, what terms to put into the search. I just clicked around and essentially broke shit and reinstalled.

I forgot about Linux for a while until my Intel Mac mini fell out of support so I installed Ubuntu around and 2010 full time on my main machine. The good megaupload and Netflix as a DVD service days.

I ended up distro hopping to nearly everything. Ended up getting that old PPC laptop up and running again with a version of puppy Linux. I got really into light weight distros and minimal UI’s with all my own cli scripts for everything, mps-yt for YouTube, made my own script for 8tracks, for web scraping and so on. Lots of pipe menus for everything, weather, calendar events and so on. Although these days I just run Fedora, have been thinking of switching to an immutable base with a container for everything I need to install besides flatpaks. Vanilla OS looked like a cool project but it’s not mature yet, same with pop cosmic.

A mature cosmic UI on something like vanilla OS with an Ubuntu and an arch container for software that isn’t available as a flatpak or otherwise doesn’t work well as a flatpak I think would be my ultimate if and when they become mature.

Yeah that happens a lot with the model most apps and platforms use. The venture capital today, figure out how to actually become profitable tomorrow. That transition is usually messy.

Not me but I’ve known three people now that would swing to absolute extremes on a kinda half year to three year cycle. Like their thing now is they are an ultra atheist and then in a couple months they were the most devout Muslim possible and then ultra this and ultra that, seemed kinda like undiagnosed manic behavior. Very impassioned individuals, pretty intelligent, absolutely convinced in whatever their thing was at that moment, always trying to fight the “enemy” and save the world type stuff but seemingly totally unanchored. The switches would come with some sort of epiphany or a sense they were being tricked or fooled. I bring this up because two of them had done that swing from ultra right to ultra left and then one into kinda political no man’s land conspiracy they’re both out to get you. Haven’t run into the other guy in a while so I’m guessing he has a new crusade by now.

Makes sense, I’ve gathered that the majority of Lemmy is very angry about anything AI, or I guess anything maybe AI related.

I mean people are pretty tired of yet another distro, but at least this person has some ideas. It looks to be more than just theming on a major base distro. Idk about the rest but I enjoy people exercising their freedom, it’s not called FOSS for no reason.

What’s up with the downvotes? I swear people on Lemmy can be so friendly and so intensely grumpy at the same time. Anyways, happy for you and you exercising your freedom. I’ll give it a look out of curiosity.
