i think they mean patrick breyer from the german pirate party

militaries slaughtering civilians using very shaky justifications that only work because they have the bigger fist or a strong backer probably isn’t that unique, so you can’t exactly use extreme words like “only”, “worst”, “ever” about current happenings. the IDF is only some of the worst scum possible.
if you’ve been running the latest windows 11 that’s very good luck

mattermost is meant for big corporations or governments

There’s a funny one-click tool here: https://github.com/Jellyfin2Samsung/Samsung-Jellyfin-Installer but I guess it’s not necessary anymore
maybe stupid is what the world needs the most
i use bash but i also use atuin which makes shell history so much neater. that’s about the only convenience i need in a terminal shell.

compromised servers are a known threat model, and not a threat in signal’s case

https://signal.org/bigbrother/central-california-grand-jury/
there are probably also a few other, more recent examples that i just can’t find. but the theory is the same, signal only knows a phone number in association with an account creation date and the last sent message date. everything else is encrypted. the signal protocol has been formally verified to be secure: https://cryspen.com/post/pqxdh/. signal all in all is a very competent messenger, and there’s a reason it’s being used by dissidents, journalists and activists, even if most of those people do not actually have the energy or skills to verify the internals. what does easily get you in trouble (assuming what you’re doing is troubling) is if you have a leaky contact. it’s not hard to just screenshot messages and then publish them elsewhere.

signal doesn’t know which phone numbers contact which other phone numbers

you don’t need to give your signal contacts your phone number, they won’t know it if you use signal usernames

oh I genuinely have no idea actually, I don’t do calls on desktop

i use the web version and it works just as well, while also benefiting from not being a native program that can steal more data than just a tab in your browser

It’s a very usable browser and vivaldi explicitly do no AI, unlike firefox. I get that firefox is the only serious cross platform competitor to chromium, but mozilla really does consistently shoot itself in the foot. it’s like they’re masochistic.
edit: vivaldi also actually seems to have a vision and design goals, which firefox sort of lacks.

that’s an odd thing to hear

it’s a funny reference to more broken times
i sometimes struggled with alsa and pulseaudio, especially in more niche or diy distros, and at the time it was frustrating as hell, but looking back it’s a nostalgic memory.

just one is not enough

the idea of “just browse the web normally with someone looking over your shoulder taking notes on what you like to then sell you shit - or even better, it infers what you like using magic and can even tell when you’re pregnant before you know it yourself” can be nice in some ways I guess, but yeah I agree. no thanks.
On windows 11 you can turn your regular cursor various colors, including green and pink, and I wish KDE could do that. I could edit cursor vectors myself, but I don’t wanna. Too lazy. I like colorful cursors because they’re easier to find and track, but I don’t want those big bloated cutesy cursors.
