so i tried it and it works, but i had to run the command as sudo to get it running. Otherwise it couldnt install the flatpak as user. user has not enough permission or something was the error code.

i tried it out a few years ago and liked it. it was more responsive than gnome and not as overloaded with settings like kde while looking more modern than cinnamon. i couldnt use it as a daily driver though because i own a tablet like device and touch was not really supported at that time at least.

thanks. i wont have time to try it the next few days but im looking forward to it.
i must say that i enjoy your distro more than bazzite.

worked almost flawless. also my gnome issues from bazzite are fixed now. thanks!
i forgot to mention that the commands for the rebase dont work if you copy it 1:1. i had to remove the slashes and copy it in a single line instead of the multilines on the website.
seems to be an issue with the formating i think.
docker://
ghcr.io…
the spaces after the docker:// get copied too and thats causing the issue.

i installed it following a guide from the bluefin forum i thinky there it was installed via rpm-ostree, which was amazing because it used all my previous settings. the revase itself also was quite ez, but i changed first to bluefin, then to bluefin-dx and lastly to margine.
the only thing that didnt work was the margine-gaming suite. i got an error where it couldnt find the flatpak for steam. the margine-gaming-native worked and it also recognized all game-installs from bazzite that way.

is it possible to install sunshine like im bazzite with ujust setup sunshine?

sweet. i run bazzite gnomr on my gaming rig and it currently has some issues and your distro seems perfect to me.
im gonna try it today!

is it possible to rebase from bazzite to margine?
true, but i didnt like that as much as gnome. its just a personal preference
I wish cosmic had proper touchscreen-support like gnome with the touch it extension and custom screen keyboards. also search inside the overview screen. i dont really like the cosmic launcher if there are multiple open windows of the same program.
Gnome Vanilla is really not that good. But with Extensions and Gnome Tweaks its usable.
Gnome Tweaks enables the minimize button and Extensions enable pretty much everything one could ask for.
I prefer the simplified UI of Gnome to the thousands of options that KDE offers out of the box. But KDE is a really good DE and i used it without problems over a year.
same. also its the only DE i know of thats useable with touchscreens. KDE would work too, buts its too overloaded for my taste and the OSK (On Screen Keyboard) is far inferior to the options of Gnome Extensions.
i wish Cosmic DE would be usable with touchscreens tho.
im pretty sure that this statement is not true tho.
source: used a ntfs-drive 4 yeara ago before i switched completely. windows fast boot has to be diseabled because otherwise the drive will not be writeable or something. also the disk needs to get mounted correctly in linux.

i dont have that much knowledge about security, but would it be reasonable to expose a single raspberry in a dmz behind a firewall as a headscale vps?
i mean it would be hard for an attacker to get past the physical firewall into the main network, right?
on the other hand they wouldnt need to get past the firewall if they take over the headscale server… edit: but that would also happen, if a vps hosted somewhere else, got infected, right?
boxes is great, if you just want to try a distro and are already on linux.
there are distros that run on debian sid, if you prefer debian as a distro, but want a more up to date experience.
im running pika os, because it offers up to date gaming tweaks, but doesnt force you to update as often. keep in mind: that os is not something i would recommend for a environment where stability is the goal, because there are only a few maintainers. its just an example of debian sid!

i bought a asrock n100 board and put 2 additional nics on it. then i configured ipfire with the red, green and orange mode. (red = wan, green = lan and orange = dmz) that way i can self host a vps inside the dmz and run the lan network without a vlan. i dont know if thats the best way to do it, but there are so much new things to learn i still dont know anything about and want to keep it as simple as possible.
you could start with a simple thin client with multiple nic‘s and get a similar price then my n100 with 4gb ram but i wanted the ability to swap some parts if needed and thin clients are rather limited in that aspect. edit: also i needed a nic with poe for my wan and thats hard to find in a regular thin client. i didnt search that hard though.

im in the same boat as you. tried opnsense for a week, but the webui is really not that friendly for a total beginner like me. im running ipfire right now, which offers less options but thats a + while im still learning the basics.
i bought a intel n100 board with used 4gb of ram and an used ssd. then i bought 1 nic with poe for the wan (5g antenna with integrated modem) and second nic for a dmz.
also i tried opnsense but switched to ipfire, because it offers all i need in a much simpler package.
cost was arround 300€. tbh i would just buy a simple mini pc with enough nics, but couldnt find one with poe to a good price.
