Zoom Page WE, automatically zoom to full width. Really useful for “convergence” pages, ie: lazy web developers that think every browser wants a 4 word wide column. You have to set “Automatically Zoom” in preferences, it doesn’t work out of the box.

ZFS is completely different than XFS. XFS is like a better (different?) ext4. ZFS is an error-checking software raid COW filesystem that does snapshots and can have multiple replicas, both local and remote. It uses zvols and datastores. Think btrfs on steroids and with a working raid subsystem.

It’s got a weird semi-closed license because Oracle is involved but it’s never been enforced and at this point is in such widespread use in large and small enterprises that it would be impossible to enforce.

ZFS on anything storage related. Enterprise level snapshot and replica management.

Fair enough on the single maintainer thing, though everything he’s doing in that is pretty much just pre-building what you would have to do with a vanilla Fedora install like add GPU optimizations, RPMFusion repos and then uses the standard repos for any installs, maybe with some switches for unstable or testing versions of certain packages like KDE, or at least what Fedora would call unstable.

I was really put off by Redhat as well for my years working with RHEL and the pain in the ass factor of licensing, etc. Fedora is pretty much arms length though.

I think you’ll like it, it’s very low maintenance IME. Another one you might look at is OpenSUSE, though I frickin’ hate their installer, but it’s not much worse than Redhat’s. At least Fedora cleans that up a fair bit.

If you want something KDE with the stability of Ubuntu and no snaps, I’d consider Fedora-based. There’s Fedora’s community spin of KDE and if you want to try an atomic update distro, Kinoite.

There’s also Nobara, a distro done by Glorious Eggroll, the main developer behind Proton gaming. It’s a distro that’s highly optimized for games and video editing, as well as Wine usage for Windows programs, and has the codecs and non-free repos installed by default. I’ve been really impressed with its capability and being up to date without sacrificing stability.

Can you sudo dmesg | grep microcode and see if you have any errors?

If so, I’d be inclined to sudo dnf reinstall microcode_ctl then do a sudo dracut -f to regenerate the initramfs, and reboot. Be sure to have a working fallback kernel like LTS installed so you can recover if need be.

Edit: I just read you changed to Ubuntu. I can’t be arsed to figure out how Ubuntu does this stuff so that’s on you to figure out. Alternatively, install Arch and use intel-ucode package.

So I’m trying to understand if you think that shutting down an update during regenerating the initramfs indicates that Arch isn’t stable? Because that’s a FAFO move and would crater any non-atomic update distro.

That is pretty sweet. I start up my docker service, run the docker command and ctrl-click the link it pops up in Konsole, and voila! I see exactly what I noticed in my system, mainly that the RGB bullshit doesn’t work which hurts my feelings not at all.

No more than someone running a coffee shop wifi would see. Some basic traffic for name resolution then encrypted traffic for web browsing that they can’t read. Unless your notes application transmits in cleartext (unlikely).

Maybe the Windows clients are paid now? But I use it currently for free on many Linux boxes. I haven’t logged into one of the Windows boxes like my mother’s office computer to fix something in a while.
