I think Matrix is the way to go because you can host your own server and be completely self hosting without a 3rd party involved.

Depend on if you’re happy to live lie or not.
No just a posting ban on my username. But I’m not an asshole to circumvent it, if they block me then they don’t want me there and then they don’t deserve me contributing there.
The only community I cared about on refit was r/Korea because I was a new migrant here. But I got banned for posting a link to my own website where I uploaded this video https://tube.jeena.net/w/aBpFLKq3x2r9R3aSrBtece which I myself recorded. They said I should have uploaded it to YouTube instead and was banned for ever.
Now I try to build up [email protected] and it’s not going great, basically only lurkers there :D but that’s OK. I’m still so but hurt about being banned that I don’t want them here anyway.
I remember not long ago Nintendo attacked the emulators and won, they didn’t attack reddit. So yeah, you might be not OK offering this emulator.
I never did dual boot. The first time moving from windows 2000 to Linux, my hard drive was only 2 GB and I couldn’t fit both of the OS:es on it, so I nuked the windows one.
Good intention, shit execution.
I am not. I was doing a year of kick-boxing when I was young but yeah that was it.
But my daughter is doing it and she just got her black belt level 1 3 weeks ago!
Wait, this is why she chose me?
The software which runs that site needs to be compatible with the ActivityPub protocol. Most of them aren’t and it is very difficult and time consuming to add ActivityPub to random software which hasn’t been designer for it from the start.
When I hear the word “honor” I mostly only conotate it with honor killings where a brother kills his sister or a father his daughter because she dared to date someone they don’t approve off. I’ve not seen it with my own eyes but read about it many articles in Germany and Sweden where Turkish or Afghan migrants did this.
So for me this word has a ver bad conotation.
Ah interesting, that just shows that I have successfully avoided subscribing to those. The few ones with ads I listen to get the ads read by the hosts like in YouTube videos.
I really want podcast apps to hook into SponsorBlock.
Right now I’m listening to very few English podcasts because of all the advertisement. I switched to German and Swedish because most of them don’t have any advertisement in them.
And I’m learning Korean now but it’s so damn difficult it’s very frustrating.
As long as people pirate there is still hope to get them back with a good service and price.
I on the other hand am a lost customer I just stopped consuming most of media. I rather spent an hour on the Threadyverse than watching a fight, a game or even a TV series.
You can run Lemmy or PieFed (which also has build in polls) non federated as a private instance, this way the content will not be sent to other instances and it’s basically a forum. You can also disable open signups and only add users manually.
But then you still need to do something about anonymous access, because both just show the content to people who are not signed in, so you would need to put it behind some extra login or so.
It’s probably 15 years ago I used XMPP the last time. Back then there were many compatibility problems between the apps and especially on the mobile phone with push notifications, etc. There were problems sending media and VOIP calls were non existent outside of the Google clients.
My guess is that some of those things improved but I have not heard anyone in my circles using it, especially since Matrix became a bit more popular, most of the Open Source projects on IRC also moved to Matrix.
