Depends on your priorities and DE preference. I’m using it as a baremetal hypervisor so, stability and maturity are my priorities. This made Silverblue my choice. If you want KDE, Kinoite would be a good place to start.

Honestly, this is what I like least about it. I do not like unique, single-purpose Domain Specific Languages. To me, requiring use of a DSL that is not like common languages used for similar purposes is a major detractor.

Yeah. I had a similar experience. My first successful install, following the docs, didn’t have a network stack. It turns out that the docs are not representative of what’s considered best practices at this point. I also don’t care for needing a new DSL for a single use case.

So, for me, it’s a non-starter. Fedora Atomic is meeting my needs nicely at this point. NixOS has brought some excellent ideas to the forefront and is a great match for some people. I’ll pass until I can use my JSON/YAML/TOML and the docs are useable.

I’d recommend trying out a Fedora Atomic distro. Similar idea but without the extremely niche DSL.

Perhaps there’s been some changes - that would make me extremely happy. I had generally good experiences initially but saw more and more attacking of users not from Hexbear or .ml instances, frequently over nothing but misunderstanding or miscommunication with no quarter or space for clearing up misunderstanding given even to other anticapitalists. It got to the point where I blocked the instance due to the negative impact on my own well-being that I noticed from the unnecessary strife and aggression that I saw and experienced. To be fair, some of it could be misperception and/or RSD on my part as one who is neurodivergent and frequently concerned about being misinterpreted or unintentionally phrasing something incorrectly.

That’s awesome. There are some great and chill comms there - maybe I might to reconsider the instance block and be more judicious in blocking only comms where I find problematic behavior. The only other instance that I have blocked is that sports one that was clogging up my feed with stuff that I find boring.

Hexbear is anti-sectarian, meaning Marxists and Anarchists are allowed, just not liberalism. As for toxicity, I find Hexbear to be one of the least toxic, especially when compared to Lemmy.world.

Gonna have to disagree with you there pretty heavily. Maybe there’s a different experience as an Anarchist vs a Marxist but, while I like conversing with a good number of Hexbears, I’ve found that the the instance is incredibly toxic with the cultivated “dunking” culture rewarding participating in insular, anti-social behavior for Internet clout and mods participating in sectarianism by disingenuously labeling non-ML leftist voices and critical historical analysis as fash.

The only reason that I tend to use it is because of the included webserver. It’s not bad but the paywalling of functionality needed for it to be a proper LB left a bad taste in my mouth. That and HAProxy blows out of the water in all tests that I’ve done over the years where availability is at all a concern. HAProxy also is much more useful when routing TCP.

Honestly, from your description, I’d go with Debian, likely with btrfs. Would be better if you had 3 slots so that you can swap a bad drive but, 2 will work.

Previously, I’ve recommended Proxmox but, not sure that I still can at the moment, if they haven’t fixed their kernel funkiness. Right now, I’m back to libvirt.

I’d love to see more on something like Envoy as the reverse proxy. I tend to think of reverse proxies in “generations”:

I’m rather familiar with 0-2 from my previous work. It’s really a pity, to me, that nginx is favored so heavily over HAProxy as in all perf and HA testing that I’ve done has resulted in nginx being left in the dust. The benchmarks that I’ve seen for Envoy show similar standings. I just haven’t spent the time yet to get familiar with it.

No. Voting is a tool in the societal “first aid kit”. It’s used to try to limit the harm that the Right would joyously continue to cause and staunch the bleeding. There are many other tools in the toolbox that must be used. Protest, direct action, community building, etc.

Non-corporate cultural, civil, and agricultural infrastructure (monopolization is particularly heavy in US agriculture, thanks to Bork and his defanging of anti-trust enforcement) needs to be developed in order to support the population during transition. This requires cultivating strong, cooperative community renderIt doesn’t feel as great as thinking that we could be there in a day or a week or a year but, a lasting, stable society free of the chains of unjust hierarchy requires a sound foundation.

Absolutely. There’s no way that the power addicts at the top are going to let go willingly. But, without popular support or the ability to provide for societal needs, any revolution is likely to result in installation of a despot and massive amounts of preventable starvation, illness, and death, not to mention societal trauma.

Capitalism has been around for a long time. Moving on to the next thing is going to take time too. Especially, when taking into account the massive efforts sunk into resisting this change by Capital, which have set us back significantly.

Revolutionaries NEED practitioners of non-violence, non-revolutionary workers, and other non-combatants as much as the opposite is true. Without the “heart” of the latter, “revolution” is nothing but a self-serving exercise in forcing one’s ideology on the populace, nearly always resulting in atrocities and despotism. When the revolution is over, what then? Without accounting for societal needs, there’s danger of power vacuums drawing worse actors. For successful positive societal change, you need builders.

And non-violence alone is not likely sufficient as it is too easily ignored and suppressed, unless it is clear and plausible that violence is the alternative. Just look at Dr. King and Malcom X.

So, to answer your primary question of “how do I suggest achieving Anarchism”, through multiple avenues. For some, revolution might be their contribution, for others, like myself, it’s education and cultivating community of shared values such as kindness, inclusion, respect, and mutual aid. Getting to a fair and just society will take all kinds.
