Mullvad has been working great for me on Arch Linux and Android.
I try to contribute to things getting better, sometimes through polite rational skepticism.
Disagreeing with your comment ≠ supporting the opposite side, I support rationality.
Let’s discuss to refine the arguments that make things better sustainably.
Always happy to question our beliefs.

“I’m paying with exposure.” argument is not that great. Agreed with easy access to culture for those who can’t spare the money though.

The sheer coverage of every subject on Reddit is crazy. Yesterday I was getting infuriated at a stupid plot in the 3 Body Problem, so I ddged it, and of course I found 3 Reddit threads sharing my frustrations. What a shame it has to get enshitified.
Or with creating Microsoft offices in their cities, like they did with Munich.
I think this means you still have some identifier that allows to link those data to a single person. This is quite explicitly not considered anonymization by the gdpr.
Is that from the Microsoft engineer or did he start from this observation?
Do you mean not aggregated? Do you mean aggregating different kinds of data, or do you mean grouping together the same data for a category?
I think in European law, for data to be anonymous, not only there should be no personal identifying information but also there should be no identifiers that allow to link non personal data together to trace the behavior of a single person. https://www.edps.europa.eu/system/files/2021-04/21-04-27_aepd-edps_anonymisation_en_5.pdf
A lot of straw man arguments. Overall, I think we agree on the value of open source.
Personally, I prefer to have my monitor at 45° because I like to follow the 3 courses “service à la Russe” code structure. The entrée and the desert of my code are light and short, while the main course in the middle has the longest lines.
I think some of this data is actually available for open source projects by scanning public repositories, although it would be a lot of work to collect it.
You have provided no valuable argument except “believe my experience”, so I am answering with an equally weak one. Provide me some good quality study and I will be happy to change my mind. I recognize this lack of enlightening information is pretty aligned with closed source philosophy.
Have you not used the internet for the past 5 years or is it a troll?
I have the same issue with Reddit, there’s a middle size good quality subreddit about my specific job which is the best place on the internet to see news and discussions about it in one place. It helps me increase and test my knowledge a lot.
