That’s how mastodon works now and i think it’s worthwhile as a basic feature.
It’s not that they don’t want an algirithm. They just don’t want one that’s profit motivated.
Are the apps not compatible?
They can always claim the second even when it’s the first.
Love to see unique features for piefed. So many different ways to tackle “threadiverse” as a project and I think we’re all better off with some experimentation
If anybody’s interested in signing up for the rolling beta, here’s the link
Seems like it’s less a problem with pixelfed and more an issue with pixelfed.social?
The major difference is that it’s modular. So you can pick and choose which traditional social network features you want to use.
I’m also watching the open book project.
If it just had epub support it’d be perfect
Well my own usage so far consists of a mastodon list with my favorite peertube, nebula, and other video creators. Since it’s chronological, it roughly serves the same purpose as the OG YouTube subscriptions page.
The creator is a nebula employee. Don’t believe it’s officially sanctioned, but they aren’t distributing videos, just notifying of new releases. Should all be in the clear based on my limited knowledge.
Unmanic to optimize your library in the background. Encoding things to x265 can buy you a huge amount of space.
Edit: Reading again i see that you’re on a pi. Not at all sure what the video encoding performance is on those.
Great project! I wish y’all the best
There was a fair amount specifically upset that the creators had not decided to focus their efforts on contributing to lemmy directly. I personally think that’s silly as it’s not hard to find folks who’ve tried and had a terrible experience.
This is not hobby software, this is public good software. They are paid in large part by grants
Some things that seem hard to argue with:
My own personal wishlist:
There’s some other stuff that I have seen PRs for and I do understand y’all are working hard. I appreciate the work you’ve done so far and the communities you’ve helped build. The Internet is undoubtedly a better place for it.
I have and if I’m honest I’m probably a little bit too harsh. I think the bigger issue is honestly the priorities of the dev team. There’s good reason that this project is focussing on moderation tooling.
Lemmy had 4 years of development to iron out bugs
Lemmy had 4 years to accrue technical debt and make foot-guns first-class features. A rewrite is probably exactly what it needs.
I think how quickly this project has gotten to near feature parity is a testament to how slow Lemmy development has been. Think about scaled sort (a feature that has been hotly requested since the migration) and how long that took to get merged in. A sort should not by any means be slow to implement.
TL;DR: Articles on mastodon will now automatically link to the author’s fediverse handle.
