It’s on a separate hard drive for me, and I have it so I select which drive to continue booting from when I first turn the machine on.

I ended up installing an older version of mint as suggested by another comment and it seems to be working just fine now. Guess there’s a limit to how backwards-compatible the newest version is.
Alright, I created a new bootable USB with Xfce 21.3 and didn’t have to use compatibility mode this time. Did a fresh install and all the updates and it looks to be working just fine now! It even seems to run a bit faster which is also nice. Thanks for the help, this did the trick!
Command not found and then it lists a bunch of options nvidia-utils-### (there’s a bunch of different ones with different numbers, some ending in -server).
How would I blacklist the nouveau driver? The driver manager doesn’t seem to have any functionality beyond a big checkmark that says says (lies) that everything is good.
First two steps worked, but then I get errors and it says unable to locate those packages.
What? No she isn’t

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What movies and shows had a positive influence on your life in your childhood?
11·4 months agoYeah there’s literal dismemberment in the early scenes, plus thematically it’s pretty mature too

Linux@lemmy.ml•Understanding Linux and choosing your first Linux distro, v2.0
5·6 months agoI’m here just to see where I should go after Win 10 and am not sure I’m much closer to finding the answer. I’m at least a bit familiar with Linux on the steam deck and Ubuntu I installed on an old laptop years ago so can’t imagine how extra confusing this is to someone with zero prior exposure.
So you’re saying it is possible then? That was my only hangup. I don’t have a position on whether we have free will (leaning towards not) for the exact reason we can’t prove it.
How would perceived irrationality be counter to a deterministic universe? It just maybe seems irrational without all of the information, but is still perfectly part of the causal chain.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Parody songs that play rent free in your head?
8·1 year agoMaybe a stretch as it’s not parodying a song but parodies Star Wars kinda sorta? Seagulls! (Stop it Now)
Lonely Island has a few (Jack Sparrow) comes to mind but again not a direct parody of a specific song.
Richard Cheese does straight up covers but they are so stylistically different that it’s basically a parody. Chop Suey
Then there’s the classic comedy music duos: Garfunkel & Oates (Loophole), Flight of the Conchords (Business Time)
Bo Burnham’s whole Inside special is fantastic too.
Looks like I’m mostly listing comedy music and not necessarily parodies, but oh well.
Or just looking up the answer afterwards.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What belief do you have two-sided opinions on?
13·2 years agoThis is something I think about from time to time and essentially get nowhere.
I try and live-capture and release bugs from my house (the only things I actively kill in this regard is mosquitos).I also hunt/fish.
If I saw a deer trapped on a frozen lake I’d go out and rescue it, yet I’d shoot that same deer in a different place under a different context. It’s not really consistent, except in intentionality I suppose.
I do place a higher value on the life of animals that are more “intelligent” (in a way that feels more human) compared to other animals. For example, I’m not upset at all when I use hand sanitizer and presumably wipe out a whole swath of life, but I’m sad if a bird hits a window and dies. Part of that is the intentionality again maybe? The bacteria “had” to die, and the bird didn’t; I’d feel less bad about the bird if I saw a natural predator take it down but it’s still more upsetting than even unintentionally killing an insect.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People who pirated in the late 90s and early 00s what is the most dramatic change from then till now? And if you had the power what would you bring back?
1·2 years agoI already do. I also want to pay my way.
The problem is what I’d like doesn’t exist (I’m not going to subscribe you a million different websites and still not even be ad free) and probably can’t. How much do all the ads I’m blocking cost? It’d be ripe for abuse but I’d essentially like a taxi meter, but it would charge me for website use from just one central account that I top up or is part of my internet bill or whatever.
I want the whole business model of using ads and tracking to pay for the internet to not exist.

7·2 years agoYes I’m also the same way with ads. I’d happily spend more for internet if there was somehow an “ad surcharge” that would mean I’d never see ads or be tracked. Let me pay whatever the advertisers pay.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a new low key snack that you have tried and liked ?
7·2 years agoFind any decent sized packages? Here it seems they individually wrap them in plastic trays with like 5g servings it’s ridiculous. No, I’m not just going to have 5g! Give me more

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Sorry for the potentially controversial question: is it normal for less attractive people to settle down with partners they don't find physically attractive?
1·2 years agoSounds like The Mirror Has Two Faces
If the movie is anything to go by, the secret will come out and there will be a fight but you’ll also fall in love and become attracted to them before the credits roll

My PC is over 20 years old. I’ve only needed to replace the GPU twice, motherboard/ram twice, power supply once, and am on my third hard drive.
