Ah I totally missed that detail in the original question! Is there an app that does both desktop and mobile?
I love that my existence pisses you off.

I enjoy Voyager for mobile.
From the book itself:
An example of this is Chapman’s story about a woman named Ann, who has a husband described as extremely emotionally abusive. Their conversation starts with Ann asking Chapman if it is possible to love someone you hate (girl, RUN). Chapman responds by making Ann read bible passages about loving your enemies. After learning that Ann’s husband’s love language is sexual physical touch, Chapman tells the poor woman that to save her marriage, she has to sleep with her horrible husband twice a week. Ann replies that she finds it “hard to be sexually responsive” to someone who “ignores her”–to which Chapman responds that many women feel that way, and she must simply rely on her Christian faith to get through it. Chapman wraps up this lovely anecdote by saying that Ann took his advice and that there was a tremendous change in her husband’s attitude, with the husband swearing to his friends that Chapman is a miracle worker. We don’t hear how Ann felt about it.
That doesn’t negate the icky origins of the concept.
The original 5 love languages schtick was created by a Christian pastor, with no background in psychiatry or psychology, in order to pressure wives to give their husbands sex because the husbands love language was physical touch.

No worries! It can be hard to search for these things on Lemmy and I am chronically online hahaha. Hopefully some more convo gets kicked up here :)

There was a recent post in womensstuff talking about scents and perfumes:
https://sh.itjust.works/post/64333192
Just in case you want to take a look! I don’t wear scents myself, but they can be very lovely. Good question!

I think any pushback on welcoming people who aren’t male, white, and tech-focused should be squashed. Like that’s absurd to only want this place to reflect what white male techs want when there’s more than enough capacity to have separate communities with different focuses. Thanks for clarifying you don’t agree with that viewpoint of being unwelcoming to “normal folks”.

A viewpoint being popular doesn’t make it right.

I felt the need to clarify since you chose my comment about needing more diversity of people with a quip about not wanting mainstream, normal folks.
It was the rampant sexism that initially turned me away from the fediverse. I think I tried two or three times before I found my groove and the communities that speak to me.
It’s not that confusing to use the Threadiverse and I think it’s a little snobbish of you to think crafts people shouldn’t be welcome if they get confused by some of the tech stuff here. I have never used Linux and can function fine on this site. You’re underestimating people.

my opinions are totally mainstream and moderate
Even mainstream and moderate opinions are not immune from criticism.

mainstream normal folks
Everyone who isn’t white and male, you mean?

I’m not sure the majority of us want to make this a more pleasant place for people who express the ideas you do. You’re free to express them, but you’re not free from criticism.

PS: But judging by the upvote tallies, we’re outnumbered about 3 or 4 to one. I have no idea how democracy will continue to exist if this is representative of the offline world.
You’re judging the resilience of democracy based on upvotes and downvotes?

Most of Lemmy is also white and male in addition to being left-leaning and tech focused. We really could use more diversity across the board here.

If dad is working on his own opt out project, maybe suggest he build playlists and such for the kid offline? Something he could load on an old iPod or something similar? I apologize, I don’t know the newest tech for playing music now, but I think the only way to keep them away from the home assistants and Spotify is building your own.

Thank you!!

the amount of dudes showing up with trollish comments became a bit too much for us admins to handle.
The mods in womensstuff work really, really hard.

That’s her :)
Oh hey! That’s cool to know!
