  • I’ve tried Mull and went back, but I can’t remember why. Iceraven is ‘fine’ but seems a touch buggy for some builds. I used to use Fennec for a long time, but I think IR allows installing ‘unofficial’ add-ons that haven’t been vetted or whatever by Mozilla for mobile. But I’ll have a look see, maybe my issue with Mull has been resolved.

Clearly 🐺. Been on it like, 3y+? Maybe longer, it’s been my primary for a long time. 🦊 as a backup, and for DRM stuff. Chrome/Chromium for shit that just doesn’t play well with 🦎. Edge (for windows) is my ‘I need to test this with a vanilla browser’ and cba to disable ublock etc from chrome incognito.

Iceraven, with backup Vanadium, on mobile.

You get me $10B annually or so, and then we can start to talk. Your single-fiber line and homelab will handle, what, 25 simultaneous users? Just have to scale that to a billion daily users or so, no bigger.

Also yt is “super critical”? Super critical is power for ICU wards and stuff, nobody is going to have a heart failure because they can’t get their daily dose of #shorts. Also gestures at Wikipedia, who is glaring at you.

I think you’re giving yt way, way too much credit, but simultaneously thinking that any one of us has the financial capability to not only have but risk that kind of cash. Companies have tried and failed. Users aren’t doing it, chief.

  • FairEmail is fucking awesome. If it were a sentient being or object, I’d pound it so hard. With consent, of course. Does everything I want and then some: fast, strips everything down to text, lets me appear to send from any address on my domains, blocks trackers, is constantly (almost literally) updated and improved, custom notification handling per folder, custom colors for messages/folders…

I’d pay for it again to get a desktop version, no hesitation about it. TB is /fine/ but… that one meme with the guy looking back at the other girl

I had to recover a W10 box from a family members work after windows had slowly given itself cancer of file corruption. I’ve dealt with this shit before and it’s not a big deal… usually…

This fucker took 3 days of babysitting to bring back to life. In-place upgrades, it required multiple (why, no fucking idea), dism, sfc just chipping away bit by bit. And no, this is a work machine, so wipe and start fresh was reserved for actual “cannot be saved” situations. It has a backup plan, and I am the unofficial/unpaid IT guy for that location, but I don’t have license keys or installers for the software used (inherited situation), and it would add lots of friction to get running again. Absolutely not jumping on that grenade unless I must, it’s untested if a restore causes license validation errors (time checks and other bullshit).

After that fiasco I applied a universal scheded task of dism followed by sfc, on a monthly basis, and every six months a few automated checks but also I pop my head in for a minute (remotely) just to validate that those automated tasks are running successfully.

It’s been about… 4 years now? And it’s been working as-expected. But windows obliterating itself with no user input isn’t what I’d call ‘a thing of the past’.

(also it wasn’t a hardware fault)
