My current weird things:

• Switched from my normal time zone to UTC on all my clocks.
• Chose to study Esperanto instead of a more practical language because of its past of hopefulness
• Plan on switching to a 13-month calendar in the future (is going to require modifying the opensource calendar I use to allow the change)
• Switched to barefoot shoes not for health but the diminished cost in materials.
• changed my keyboard to a dactyl manuform for the hell of it.
• changed my keyboard scheme to Dvorak now.
• changed my videogame control scheme from wasd to dcxf to accommodate the keyboard (in Dvorak that’s exku).

We’re all alittle eccentric. Some of us more than others.

For linux users, you can add it to Steam as a nonsteam game for proton support and add the .NET 8.0 runtime environment using the explorer app in protontricks. It runs great via that method.

Edit: dug back into my childhood, the Digiworld is stored on a cluster of servers, so those are pretty likely going to be some flavor of linux. Local PC client applications are used for storing Digimon locally IIRC, and we also see in this clip that it appears that the guys are using windows 95 or something similar.

I strongly support an opt-in model. You are given a list of ‘tags’ that denote content and that are most popular, and you can add them to your home feed. The unselected tags simply show the most popular posts of the most popular unselected tags.

That’s the system I think of at a glance, which I can already think of ways to game with bots, but I think there are likely much smarter folks out there who can work on solving those issues.

I’ve got alot of people I’ve promised that I won’t off myself. Those promises were mainly what got me through the dark times.

Saw the aftermath of a pretty bad motorcycle accident, with the rider receiving CPR. It was confirmed later by the news that they didn’t make it. I was stuck at a light and able to see the scene for a few solid minutes, but it really didn’t impact me heavily. Honestly it felt even less relevant than footage I’d seen before since I was having to actually drive and my attention couldn’t be put entirely on the accident.

In contrast, I was there for a friend putting their dog down. The amount of emotion everyone was going through was much more pronounced - you could physically feel the sadness around you.

Seeing death always has an uneasy aspect to it, but I think the real impact comes from social ceremony. We choose to feel pain over it as a way to heal, I think.

Peak design was late 90s and 2000s, where you got to see the new crazy designs of a new era while 80s design still existed all around you prevalently. That fusion is peak nostalgia for me.

I know that the chans were used for orchestrating some of the various harrassment campaigns that have happened throughout the years, including most of the gamergate BS. They’re such chaotic spaces I can’t imagine trying to pull off any prolonged actions on them, and the automatic pseudonymity really brings out the seediest people possible.

Yes, the codecs currently used are a good thing, and yes, I think 4k and 8k should just be left to downloading. I think videogame streaming should have shifted over to demo file formats years ago, so that your gameplay wouldn’t be sullied by video compression (very big issue for games like squad and tarkov, where everywhere is covered in woods.

I think that the web had great potential to help, but I think that it has had that potential heavily damaged by the profit-oriented web 2.0. The vapid ad-and-clickbait-saturated web we’ve created is exponentially less knowledge-dense than it was before. We really do need to go back to a web that’s built by communities of people rather than profit-crazed tech giants.

I also feel like the bloating of CSS and HTML code, video-sizes, and uses of servers has been a bad idea. It feels like we’ve done these things for consumerist reasons rather than for genuine benefit.

That logic they’re using should be burned with fire.

With that logic, cars being highjacked for a crime should make the company liable for the crime (Revolutionary actions would also count as crimes). That gives car manufacturers alot more legal reason for adding kill switches to their vehicles’ engines, which would most likely be used by cops for whatever the fuck they want.

How about DJI’s drones being used to kill individuals in Ukraine? Steam decks are currently also being used by Ukraine to control machine gun turrets remotely, and they’re able to be used that way explicitly because they use regular OS’s (a major boon to its users.)

This type of regulation would only further lead to anti-consumer products, and a stronger police state.

The answer seems to be “it depends” and “if you have the right equipment and know-how”
