Capitalism inevitably breeds sociopaths that attain power through wealth accumulation, which eventually leads them to backing fascist parties to maintain power in the face of working class rebellion.
How are the Liberal party “classic” conservative and Democrat?
Their platform is a mix of classic conservative ideas; small government, deregulation, lower taxes, no or very little social safety nets, privatization under the guise of efficiency, cost cutting, and free market ideals.
And a mix of some progressive Democrat ideals; Acceptance LGBTQ+ people and Bodily Autonomy.
Basically a Classic conservative without the hyper-traditional values/religion, allowing them to keep the capitalism and no welfare, while not being particularly bothered by their gay neighbor while they light up a joint.
We would probably do much better if we had a proportional representation system, and citizen united was banned. Oh, and publicly funded elections.
I don’t disagree, but without eliminating capitalism, all of those are just temporary band-aids to a system that will auto-corrupt given a long enough time span, it’s just kicking the can down the road.
I much prefer left-wing libertarianism as something that properly fixes the problems society faces in both the short and long term.
Like I said I don’t agree with deregulation of the economy. How are they conservative? What are they trying to conserve? What political party is progressive on everything? The Liberal party is for changing the current status quo in a dramatic way. That’s progressive not conservative.
Classic conservatives were not minarchists or voluntaryists. Minarchism is not the current status quo nor was it a previous status quo. They are progressing towards a minarchist state. The old republican party did not want to decriminalize (or even legalize) all drugs and end the drug war. We are progressing towards drug liberalization.
That doesn’t sound very conservative.

I’m not saying you do. I’m saying the Liberal Party clearly states they do, which is the important part.
They are like classic conservatives because they share many of the same platform ideals as the old Republican Party, as listed above.
Apparently; Capitalism, corporations, wage labor, and ineffective climate action.
